Governor: New Orleans Needs to Be Evacuated Tuesday, August 30, 2005
BATON ROUGE, La. With conditions in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans rapidly deteriorating, Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search ) announced late Tuesday that people now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers need to be evacuated.
"The situation is untenable," Blanco said during a news conference. "It's just heartbreaking."

If New Orleans is evacuated and eventually written off as a total loss, Nagin still be mayor of what? If Baton Rouge is the only major Louisiana city left, why not let Texas annex it and find another state to take its place (need to keep the flag balanced)? Maybe Puerto Rico? Northern Mexico? Part of Canada?

Godspeed to both of you.
Very sad, but thank God for the neighbor.
Okay, from what I'm reading, NO is flooding because of breaks in some levees? Why not call in those huge planes that dump water on our wildfires here in Cali? They lower a huge hose and syphon water out of lakes, then dump the water on forest land. Could they could use those planes to suck up some of the water, and dump it in the ocean?
Just a thought, people. Quit laughing...
Good thinking, I look for the USN to move an aircraft carrier and hospital ships into the area.
Step away from your keyboard and put that bong down
Just so you no longer remain clueless: G.W. Bush is the President of the USA, not the Governor of Louisiana. He is providing leadership via the Federal Government and it's vast resources.
"Nagin has been remarkably unimpressive and Blanco has a wide-eyed look of confusion that's better accustomed to a middle manager in a big firm being asked a question at a department meeting."
So true.
I saw the whole bunch on TV confused and unresponsive.
Hello Nagin, Blanco! Are you home?
Pffft. The difference is the press worshipped Clinton. They won't give W the time of day. Better for him to just do the right thing and stay out of the way. You KNOW he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
You clearly have no respect for the weight of water. :-P
You may as well empty the ocean with a teaspoon.
I have the same question. That is why I asked about #6.
Until the river has been resurveyed, I'm not sure it would be wise to take a cruise ship through it. How has the delta changed since last week?
I have plenty of respect for the capacity of water dropping airplanes. Have you ever seen them? Of course we rent them from Canada, last I heard. :/
At least it's a thought in a positive direction. How would you suggest getting out all that water?
Real bad.
"Maybe Puerto Rico? Northern Mexico? Part of Canada?"
Not Canada, please.
Actually, I have heard the Corps is dropping 3000 lb sandbags from the air over the breaks.
I guess the new bankruptcy laws will prevent them from escaping their debt.
Your words ring true, but I really think Koch and Goodman are real "street kids", and know just what to do when they get poked in the chest!!!
Very well said!
