The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I think we should save the politics for later.

I think the Gov needs you on her staff.

At times like this, I wish I was. It's frustrating to be so far away and unable to do anything to help.

WDSU was showing footage of that bridge earlier..

Showed a single car, on a single span that was isolated from the collapsed ones around it. Looked like someone laying inside, but the camera cut away at that point....

What IDIOT drives out onto a BRIDGE during a hurricane?

I also thought once the storm hit land it would start to disintegrate but that hasn't been the case. Now I'm wondering why not.

The River is not flooding anything. The flooding is from Lake Ponchatrain and started in earnest last nite.

"To: ican'tbelieveit; jeffers
jeffers, where are you reading that Iran has offered anything other than their "sympathy"?

Cause all I can find is this, and it says nothing about money:

He said that Iranian nation and government sympathize with American people especially the bereaved families of the natural disaster.

He hoped that situation in the flood hit states of America would return to normal soon. "

Someone posted a satyrical article that I took for real.

next question: How do you find these people? Especially invalids and the elderly who can't climb onto a roof?

I suppose the people living in areas where they were actually able to loot would survive.

I'm willing to make room in our house for 1 to 4 people. We are in Maryland though.

That's what's frustrating. I could sleep four comfortably, eight if we press the sofas into service and evict my daughter from her bedroom. But I'm way the heck out here.

They probably are first deploying all assets to rooftop rescues. The Superdome may be gross and uncomfortable, but it is better than a roof, and people can temporarily survive there as a staged shelter, no one intends for it to be permanent. There was a report late last night that the sick in the SD were going to be moved to the convention center, which is better suited for that. So there are some things going on that aren't getting reported much, it isn't all unplanned chaos.

Looks like "The Military Controlling the Weather" thread at DU has been pulled....

Oh man, that sucks big time! I figured it would hang around, since the poster was a "1000+ posts" guy. A regular giant on their forum.

But har-har-hardy-har-har! I still have the window open and can post it here, as an eternal memorial to their goofiness:

cthrumatrix (1000+ posts) Tue Aug-30-05 06:18 PM

Original message:
Don't respond w/o your TINFOIL on - "Katrina" = "another 911 for bush" ?

I think this disaster is tooo coincidental.

Everything going on was "negative for bush and for POWER" :

* Iraq is a nightmare -- the draft constitution rejected by Sunni's with potential "civil war" as a result.

* The US economy in the shitter (BS job numbers and inflation rising)

* The Housing bubble aboutr to burst with consumers extended on home equity loans -- last few months retail shopping slowing

* Oil continued to increase and people having to spend less on consumables.

* The US "economic - housing - oil induced - poor planning by govt BUBBLE" was coming home to roost.

* NOT to mention the Plame investigation and Rove "fingerprints"

What do we get :

-------------------

A "perfectly targeted devistating hurricane" at a city "below sea level which controls 25% of US energy production"

For those of you that don't know -- our Military has been working with "controlling the weather" for sometime. How HAARP works and it creates "depression's and steering" don't ask me. I know hurricanes require warm Gulf waters (August/Sept you have that).

And now:

---------

7x24 news on the hurricane -- forgetting all of the above.

I don't trust TPTB and I think more is coming that all "our woes" will now be blamed on Katrina"

IF there were anyway to find out increased "weather making activity" that steered this towards New Orleans and others I would love to know.

TPTB would do "anything" do advance thier agenda -- and the CNN "situation room" was created "just in time" -- what a "co-inkydink"

I checked weather underground and TD 13 has come and gone. It was very short lived. It looks like another rotation might be starting but the IR satellite maps I got up weren't very good so it's hard to tell. The ones that start higher up tend to head toward the Carolinas and seem to be heading north out to sea. Waters cooler up there, too.

Just dropped in over there and looks like a few more threads need to be pulled. I usually just peak in to get a chuckle from time to time, but dang they're already onto pushing Bush for impeachment again over this natural disaster! Do they really think if any president had been in office that this wouldn't have happened? Dang...they're way out there now.

I think the Red Cross might be able to coordinate something including cheap transportation. I'd be more than happy to pick up a family or couple at an airport.
