The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Would refer you to the experience of Grand Forks, ND after the 93' Mississippi floods.
Whole town under water and in the downtown area everything burned to the waterline.

What makes this especially bad is no way for firefighters to get in.

Think of it as a fire at sea, few things worse

This just makes me ill. I swear I'll never complain again about having to shovel out of a three-foot blizzard.

Sure puts things in perspective, doesn't it? I have nothing to complain about here in the Pacific Northwest, that's for sure.

"You're an idiot."

I suppose. Obviously you find some comfort by adding drama to what is already a dramatic event. I leave you to your pursuits.

I'll never complain again about having to shovel out of a three-foot blizzard.

Agreed. This whole event has made me think very little of my own aches and pains and seeming troubles.

Perspective is much more clear now.

There was a phone call to a freeper today but the connection was so bad that she couldn't make out any words. She hit *69 and it was a Mississippi area code and she doesn't know anyone there, except Gulfcoast6, so we're somewhat hopeful. Pray for him...he's a lovely, wonderful, elderly man.

Our President HAS done a flyover already, some time ago. He has also worked with agencies to put executive orders in place, release oil, and all sorts of things like that, all of which take time, meetings, judges you name it. He will speak soon. PLEASE stop expecting him to be God!

OK, this is getting way out of control. I think it's time for the police to use their guns.

I rememberr the flood on the Red River in Minnesota (Grand Rapids i think) and several blocks were on fire as no way to get people in to put it out. Tragedy upon tragedy.

"I think a lot of our priorities just got rearranged."

Agreed. I had a call yesterday from a friend who called me and said after seeing this tragedy he feels very lucky to have a home, a job, a family, and friends. Just the basics.

I think you are the one that is sounding like an idiot.

People are dying there. It is dramatic, and it is going to be more dramatic as the days go on.

No one is helping those people now. They need help. I don't know how to get the help to them, but they need it now or there will be hundreds more dead in the coming days.

both Islamic and Christian extremists think God is using hurricanes

Any Moslems that think that are indulging in a basic heresy in their faith. Their god does not intercede. The Christian God does, so we Christians are free to wonder if there is a mighty message here. If there was a miracle it was that the storm was met with a burst of dry air at the last minute that reduced the force and diverted the track away from the main city.
