The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
If they can get those television trucks in they can get those people water and food. We are watching people die of thirst right before our eyes.
I would like to see an executive order mandating free cinnamon toast! Yay!
That poor 3yo baby....Im in tears....
Shep did ask for help to be sent at that location. He will not have the direct access to get water or medical help there. He can however TELL those in charge what help is needed there!
Doing that frees up officials from sending valuable personnel there just for a look-see!
All those reporters could change their focus from reporting to telling the authorities where they need to get!
What about the morons who chose to ignore the evacuation orders? I know, I know, many were not capable of leaving on their own, but just as many were...
I just can't fathom it. This is becoming bigger than 9/11, if that were possible.
I've had a feeling since yesterday that most of the people now in the city will be dead in a week.
Clearly, no one is in charge here.
You mean that they are not leaving the SuperDome?
Dear God in heaven.
I know it isnt sheps job and I do think he redeemed himself from the first day coverage, but i wish they would haul those little ones out of there.
He looks like he is about to die. I hope the buses start coming soon with water for these people. Get them to Texas soon. Texans will shower these people with what they need.
Landfall was squarely on Biloxi, Miss.
I agree, as big as or bigger than 9/11. But this time the "enemy" was mother nature. And there was warning that this was coming.
I heard a State Farm Insurance Rep interviewed this morning -- first she gave an 800 number for people to call with claims (reporter said no phone service was available) and then she started to give the email address (reporter said no power or internet was available) so then she was asked what to do and she just looked at the reporter dumbfounded. Reporter asked then if adjusters would be around, she thought for a moment, and said she guess they would.
Hard time fathoming people who are supposed to know what to do being clueless.
Shep has been standing on that highway giving location information - speaking to a police officer- doing all he CAN do to get the word out...
Mobile, Alabama is now completely out of fuel.
No!
Um. I think you are being just a bit over dramatic here. Maybe it is time to take a break. And I mean that sincerely, not sarcastically.
Can we have a new thread soon? Thanks!!!
I suspect this IS bigger; in destruction, death toll and economic impact. It's possible and we're watching it happen. Someone said "slow 911." That's damn right.
