The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Charity Hospital is being evaced by boat per presser on wwltv.com...7000 to 10000 out of all facilities that they have GOTTEN IN TOUCH WITH ..others with no contact since storm.
NO hospitals without diesel for their generators. Somebody needs to out and scavange diesel from a un-flooded gas station. Hand pumps required..
I'm definitely picking up some tips. A learning experience for us all...
I hope the big quake doesnt hit the next two weeks, because almost all of the SAR teams in CA are on their way to NO.
Yesterday I didn't see anyone taking any belongings with them in the rescues. They looked like it was all they could do to let themselves be rescued.
the generators are underwater in NO....that is why they are moving people to different states...
Not only that Jenifer York has retired from skycam 5
They have been. But the scale of this problem is huge, and spread out.
But I admit, all this "posse comitatus" bullshit from the military that they can't move in, they are only for support of civilian law enforcement, should have already been set aside by action from both the state and federal level. President Bush has executive order authority, use it. A lot of good things are going on, there is a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes, mass amounts of help is definitely on the way, but there have also been some major shortfalls on this response.
Do you have a link to back up your assertion that Barbour is pleading with the President to come to MS?
Haley Barbour asked the President NOT to come for a few days. The security needed would drain the police force that is needed for the rescue relief.
Charity and University Hospital patients currently being evacuated by boat. Trying to evacuate 9,000 people (staff, etc.) from 9 facilities. Haven't been able to contact all facilities.
300 people on the roof of one hospital.
Trying to get fuel to hospitals to get generators going.
I wonder if the mayor just saw the live coverage Shep was doing with the people walking through the water out of the projects?
So is it an unreasonable idea to do a few air drops of water to the bridges? I realize it would be chaotic...just thinking they have got to get water...dehydration is a horrible thing.
Those recovering bodies from attics could put an address on a toe tag.
If dental offices are inundated, there won't BE any dental records.
Those found floating free likely won't be identified.
The military has morticians who specialize in mass casualties under adverse conditions. They will be needed in this situation, as your garden-variety mortician would be overwhelmed with the logistics.
boat resources are heavily taxed....hospitals marked for evac have already exhausted fuel.
Getting federal help now..I assume that means military.
dang....how many are in the dome? Add all of these poor souls to them and I'm starting to think more will be needed than the Astrodome!
Drop the pallets of water on the looters.
Not what I am hearing from the press conference. Emergency Generators are running but low on fuel. Emergency generators are usually located above flood level per BOCA\NEC code
So am I correct in thinking that NO and the state of LA have NO plan in the event of hurricanes?
God bless Shep Smith, pleading with the state police rep to get ANY info to the mass of people on the freeway.
