The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Clueless is indeed the word. Such a tragedy, she is NOT what the citizens of her state need or deserve. I agree, saw the mayor on one of the shows, a few minutes ago. He at least seems to have a firmer grasp of what is going on.

I thought it was real interesting how her assistants were constantly feeding her(Blanco) words to say.

Where's John Breaux? In jail? He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he inspires confidence. I'm sorry, I'm not au courant on LA politics so I'm prepared to be corrected.

Other Navy actions:

www.navy.mil (status of the Navy) has more ships than the Bataan running to the rescue.

The current roster:
LHD 5 Bataan- almost there
Starting out:
USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7)
USS Shreveport (LPD 12)
USS Tortuga (LSD 46)
((this equals 2nd large, a medium and small (ha ha) amphib))
plus USS Grapple (ARS 53), which is a salvage ship
also no doubt some MSC fuel/cargo supply accompanying who will probably do a lot of grunt work while the helos and putputs get all the glory...

Hey, I hate that expression "My bad". I knew the ex was cheating when she came home one night and was using it.

All that aside, from a post a little bit up, I've lost my Foxnews feed on my cable. I'm still getting local stations, I just can't get Foxnews. I'm having severe withdrawal symptoms.

I was just wondering if Shep Smith is still reporting down in the Quarties Francais.

Yes, they were giving her talking points. Shell shocked, not able to think clearly? What a pathetic joke. I suppose I shouldn't be so hard on the woman, but for crying out loud, they need a leader who can take charge and think on her feet.

The incompetent governor is on now. It is a very trying time for everybody, according to her. She says they are going to try to evacuate the Superdome today. Fox is asking her questions and her answers are really vague.

Torie, funny you should use the word criminal.

The runoff into the lake and down the Mississippi will continue for days. They should be dropping rafts and paddles, dropping three thousand pound sandbags ain't gonna get the job done with a breech two city blocks wide and water seeking the bowl. The dearth of evac planning and foresight is damn near criminal here.

Did anyone else hear Fox and Friends this morning about the possibility that the sharks in the New Orleans Aquarium are now loose?

I heard that someone spotted a shark swimming in the water downtown.

I can't confirm it was from the Aquarium.

"A sad thing. But the people of NO were the ones who put Blanco and Landrieu in office....."

Yes, in the end we, the citizenry, are ultimately responsible because we elect our leaders.....

NOLA is just one example of a disaster in the making; unfortunately this is being repeated all over the central and south east coast. The coastal regions of NC, SC, and Georgia are growing rapidly....they could easily be the next Gulfport.

It doesn't have to be this way, but we Americans love the water and will continue to build near it unless the underwriting of such foolishness ends....IMHO

I don't know about Shep, but I have decided Orlando is on my favorite list, more so than before.

I will now and forever think of him as Orlando "Swing it around, Ted" Selenes.

In every single report he says "Swing the camera around" at least twice. He even had it swing to a sleeping Steve Harrigan LOL!

Besides, he wears a Hookies cap.

I would be more worried about the snakes and the gators.

I heard that there was a shark on CAnal street,,maybe he can deal with some of the bad boys down there. It would be poetic justice.

"But generator systems don't typically run on LP."

Go to Home Depot - they have permanaent household units out front that run on LP, Natural Gas, gas, etc.

Sure Diesel is cheaper but how cheap is this levee and pump failure going to be.

Actually, they need to pull out from in front of the cameras period. She is contributing to the chaos with everytime she gets in front of the camera.

If anything, she should introduce the experts and let them talk. Other than that her handlers should get her away from the microphone. She is in no condition to be talking to the press.

I saw that. A strong leader is like a beacon of light that people can gather around. She is at such a loss, herself personally, that she does not inspire anyone, especially herself.

Pardonez-moi! My Bad!

Shep reported last night. I haven't seen him this morning; he's probably sleeping. One of the cable stations reported they were advised to stay off the streets because of the looters downtown. A nurse from Tulane U. Hospital described seeing guys in pickups with lots of guns a la Mogadishu driving around (like in a 'technical'). They'd rob cameramen in a flash if they caught them! Before that scene gets too far along, they have to get people out of there. There are 37,000+ troops in the State Guards of the three states to deal with the situation, once it's made safe to enter.

LOL. Orlando likes to direct his live shots from in front of the camera. If you notice as they are running "tape" with his live voice-over, he ususally end the segment with, "Now, coming back out live to me".
