The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I saw that pic earlier and wondered the same thing myself. Why weren't these buses used for good, rather than left to destruction?

They are probably going to be lucky if a riot doesn't break out in the Superdome before it's all over.

Saw those earlier this evening completely submerged on video on WWL. Told my husband they probably had gas in them too.

***What are people thinking? What's the point in being a gangsta in these circumstances? What is there to gain?***

Rep, getting back at Whitey and the Man, who knows??

I DO know that things are breaking down there, and FAST...

Wasn't there an SNL skit from years ago that portrayed an absolutely horrible idea conceived within a corporate boardroom with the punchline being ..........

Who's the genius that came up with this idea?

That's what she was hinting about. Those people won't be able to spend one more day there without proper sanitation. Disgusting thought of living in a pig sty with thousands of angry people.

"She kept fading off. Said they had to have some place to evacuate the people in shelters *to* before they could evac them."

I'm shocked they wouldn't have had a plan in place for years of where to evacuate people. I feel so sorry for all those people who are basically stuck in that hedious Superdome.

Hi Pepper!

It is stunning in its ineptitude....and she is stunning in her lack of preparedness ( and sounds immature to me, childish like).

Am I dreaming, or did I hear mary landrieau (sp?), a few days back, poo poo the executive order ( that our President was forced to make because the gov, the senators and the mayor were to worried about legalities of forcing folks to leave and put safety behind the protection of their own butts) to evacuate as over reaction? I did dream that, must have, because folks here would be railing about this if it had happened.

You can point that finger at anyone, is all I'm saying. He is the mayor of a cash-strapped, geographically doomed (but lucky until now) city, in the poorest state in the union (I believe). There really isn't a whole lot of preperation to be done. Ultimate catastrophes and crises like these are exactly the situations we depend on the federal government, including the Nat'l Guard, FEMA, and now Homeland Security, to spring into action for.

If they are the ones to act, why shouldn't they be involved in the preperation process as well? Why do they, more than 24 hours later, still not seem to have any contingency plan, when everyone seemed to predict the same doomsday scenarios?

You have to keep this in perspective. A mayor of a city, even a somewhat large one like NO, does not have much power. Probably even less than the parish presidents, to be honest.

We have old uniforms that fit the bill (navy pants and white polos). I wish I could send them to the schools.

It would also be a good school project to send school supplies to the hurricane area.

I'm sure my kids would love to send supplies to the kids in the hurricane area.

She's late. The prayers stated a few days ago.

I've been here. I just don't think MSM video of two police women looting Wal-Mart should set the example for all the police officers that are working the area. I imagine the local police have very little say in the evacuation plans. To trash all of the police officers because of the two looting women is wrong.

What was the predominant race of the hijackers during 9/11. Is it racist to point out that they were predominantly a certain persuasion IF IT IS A FACT.

Ah, but he did; it was the "It's gonna turn" plan.

Live coverage is back on CNN, folks. As Fox and MSNBC is all reruns, if you want up-to-date info, switch to CNN, as much as that might kill you to do so.
