The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Not to be picky, water is 8.56 lbs per gallon.
Not a lot for 5 gallons, big for 30,000+.

WWL has signed off the air for the night online - switched over to CNN. Live coverage to continue at 5am local time from Baton Rouge.

Any other live streaming coverage still running?

I think it's a given that NO is now part of Lake Ponchartrain, unfortunately. There seems to be no way to prevent the water in the city from achieving the level of that lake, sadly. But bad as that is, that is preferable to the city being inundated by the river.

army corps of engineer with Tucker Carlson now - first attempt to close the 17th street breech failed, they didn't have enough sand. if they cannot close it, they will not re-attempt until the water finds its natural level.

I saw the interview too, and the COE guy aid that water rising to 9-15 feet sounded like a reasonable guess to him. Then he said they were pulling all stops to get it closed. All stops except for working after dark. Can't they put a spotlight on the helicopters and work during the night? Doesn't sound like an all out effort to me.

> Tell me, how do you think they are going to pump out the bowl without fixing the breech?

Once the water level in NO rises to that of the lake, which it seems to be doing quite rapidly, then there will be no forces of moving water to displace any subsequent breech repairs.

By the way, spanalot, your condescending sarcasm is getting out of hand. Suggest you stick to discussion, and not "thread rage."

The governor on WWl said she was at the superdome today.

The Fish and Wildlife leader/speaker was impressive and looked to be near tears when he spoke of his men out on boats all night in dangerous situations, going house to house and rescuing people in the dark.

From what I have heard they are still putting people...whole families that have been rescued from rooftops INTO the dome. I wish I wish I wish I could get down there and bring a few of those poor kids home with me.....

Whatever... but you're going to get in line behind the people that think hurricanes are caused by a lack of federal planning.

Whatever.

You are right on target... I guess I always thought we had plans.. I think each city/county is suppose to have a disaster plan.. also, what about homeland security..

The moral to this epic (for me) is to make sure my family and neighbors are prepared... we must have our individual plans...

Tomorrow night a group of our neighbors are meeting to talk about what we need to know/do in case we ever get in this same situation... just fourteen families.. young and old.. taking our own initiative to get ready .. for what we pray will never come..

Warmly

The Fritzy

I work at LSU. There are people in the Field House, the Marevich basketball arena may be used for housing. Families of students are living in the dorm. There will be a massive staging area set up for rescue in NO.

My boss called me today and said to be there tomorrow. They are asking for volunteers to assist, medical people. I think they are expecting a crowd. And military vehicles, ambulances, etc are supposed to be there.

From what I understand, one can take the elevated 10 to some other road west of town, where one can hop over to US 90 to go westbound. West of that point, 10 becomes submerged. East of New Orleans, what's called the Twin Span, twin bridges that cross over the eastern portion of the lake, have been destroyed.

I'd have to agree with you about using LSU's campus. There's also Southern University in Baton Rouge.

It must be pitiful to exist like that. The looters have no concept of the bigger picture.

Agreed and also add that it's a sad reflection of the "give me something for free" mentality that is prevalent in our society today. I also imagine they have no concept of God.

Not only were these lady cops taking shoes, they were saunteringly though Wal Mart, as if they had nothing better to do.

According to Marshall's law, they can be shot for this.
