The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

"CNN is doing the best job."
Until the Sheehan commercial. ;-)
I think we are going to have to wait to see how high the water goes on a known elevation. Bourbon street is listed at 2.5 below sea level. Lake P's normal level is 1 foot above sea level and someone said it is 4" above that. Time will tell.
You are correct. Think triage, figure out who needs immediate care, who to place in line, and who to assign to clean up the crappers.
You are talking to one woman that would have a hard time voting for any woman, Republican or RAT, for President.
BTW, I am not a believer in diversity in the case of electing politicians. Give me a Gov Keating who sticks his foot in his mouth but at least he isn't afraid to say what he thinks.
I think Carville in private is much different, how else could he had married Mary Matalin. I read the book he co-wrote with her, he seems actually to be a very likable guy in spite of his politics.
Exactly..............LOL. Wouldn't you know?
I just keep wondering why Wolf is TALKING SO LOUD!
No hurricanes out there in Midland, either, are there? LOL!!
Seriously, you're a mighty fine human being to be opening up your home. My nieces' in-laws lived just below Lake Ponchartrain in Metairie, and their house is likely filled with water. They're in a hotel, but they're coming up here in a week or so, and we've offered our spare bedroom to them until they can figure out what to do. Don't know if they'll accept. We can take a couple, or a couple with one kid.
I've been watching more of CNN
since early yesterday than I
ever have previously.
CNN is doing an outstanding job.
Give hugs and prayers to your guest for us. I wish them the best.
You would think that at least one reporter would be asking the question we are, and coming up with the only answer, that the Missisippi is coming into NO, and then inquiring of the officials. Or you would think the officials would condescend to tell us. Is everybody out there THAT freaking dumb and obtuse? Am I in the asylum looking out, or outside the asylum looking in?
The "just lake water" answer was in response to a reporter question about the water being akin to a vat of poison (chemicals).
I did see one good size plume of gasoline or oil in one arial shot. But I'm sure it doesn't amount to a serious risk, in context with all the other trouble in place.
It seems we all forget that when the world needs help, we as Americans and the richest nation on earth Help. Surely there is nothing another nation could offer us to compare with our generosity, in fact they don't have it to offer. (/sarcasm)
I imagine the NG are trying to centralize the refugees to make it easier to get aid to them, and easier to start moving them out once they have either enough clear roads or enough helicopter transport capacity.

We are alone in this as we are pretty much alone in the WOT. I suspect our friends in the UK will not let us down, but the rest of the world, I wouldn't hold my breath on...
How did you do with the storm passing through? Heard there was flooding in Memphis.
Amazing, isn't it?

I looked that up before because I wasn't sure whether it was state or federal laws involved, and it apparently is a hopelessly convoluted tangle of both. (Your father's idea is sound, of course, IMO!)
