The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

They are women and I think that is part of the problem.Sorry but that is what I think. In general I do believe men do this kind of thing better. And these two are proof of it.

If we could only drop Micheal Moore and Ted Kennedy in the levee breech we could save the city.

That is easily the funniest post I have read in days.

"The levees overran because of water dumped uphill from them."

The levees that failed are on the lake - not the river.

Its a big lake with no hill

Oh, yes, she did.........right after she told everybody to "act nice" when they were leaving the city -- she said that on Saturday when they "suggested" people might want to think about leaving.

Good email.

We are saying essentially the same thing to partisan posters on another forum that usually isn't political.

These troops are not trained for this kind of stuff. They should attack the water?

The same people who think we should nuke China if they attack Taiwan, nuke Mecca in the event of another terror attack, and nuke hurricanes before they come ashore probably think we should nuke the water, too. Those nuclear warheads really are handy little all-purpose problem-solvers, aren't they? ;)

Yea!...oops, Mayor says they should have been plugging the levees.

BTW, Pat Buchanan was on Hannity's radio show today, and wants to file impeachment papers on President Bush because of the illegal immigrant problems...

So, I think that makes about 4-5 different things that Pres. Bush is going to be impeached for...might as well add a hurricane to the list!

I wonder if NO is really more like a muffin pan than a bowl, at least near the bottom. Some of this water may be being around in circles?

Maybe NO can hire attorney Felos and tell us what a beautiful thing death is.

"This is our tsunami," Biloxi Mayor

What a horribly stupid thing to say. The recent Tsunami killed 100's of thousands of people, and they had no warning. Katrina on the other hand killed less than 200 and while that is terrible, there was a warning. People didn't have to die, it wasn't a surprise that Katrina was going to be massive. Call Katrina what it is, a horrible natural disaster, but don't belittle the recent Tsunami and the destruction that it brought by comparing Katrina to it. If there was no warning, I think I might feel a bit different, but the deaths that took place seems to me to be pointless. I feel badly for the people who have lost loved ones, and hope that their tragedy will be a wake up call to those who live in hurricane areas.

Those three women don't have a clue and throw in the Mayor of NO and you just want to scream for an adult to be in charge.

Err, hardly the time to bring up the financial state of the airlines. More to the point would have been: Did people make the effort to get to the airport in time? The delay in the evacuation order may have made a difference.

Well, you would not have the special metro blend. I hear many people from all over the state say our prices have risen and are at or above neighboring states.

I have never heard anyone explain that it was because of taxes. No one can explain it.

This may be seem to be off topic, but the rising gasoline prices caused by the hurricane damage will affect each and every one of us. I guess my memories of the oil embargo make me fear what is ahead.

OTOH, we are high and dry and only have the mundane problems in life to deal with. Gas prices seem insignificant.
