The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I was just replying to another freeper who said she heard that. We have have worried about this all day and if the knuckleheads down there were in denial that Titanic was sinking.
Worst possible scenario. Might as well call it a Category Five now. The Doomsday Scenario has been achieved - albeit a day or two after the main event.
This was from the Mayor's office from someone who has been looking at the levees.
That can't be so. The river is low this time of year.
Must be down river in Plaquemine or something.
I heard that too ..... some time ago.
This needs to be treated like nuclear bomb, get the people away from the fallout quick.
Yeah, food especially. It's considered trash after being flooded. The other items are going underwater. With the exception of item such as jewelry, etc. most things will be considered trash after submersion.
First word that we have had out of the little wimp. Trent Lott
Even just arresting them and locking them up in a nearby building for a few hours can do wonders for keeping people from becoming a mob. Another example from LA, when another trial's results were about to be released about a year later, Gates' replacement flooded the streets with every LAPD cop he had. That show of force kept protests as protests instead of riots. And those arrested were released very quickly.
what's the legality of doing that?
I agree, every statement I hear from the governor, its just a serious of complaints; this is bad, that is bad - people want to see some leadership, that something, anything, is being done affirmatively.
Are you saying that police and firemen are looting???
What's the added increase in Miss. River flow rate due to runoff from Katrina??
It is the Mississippi levee and what started the evacuation of everyone. That is according to an expert that WWL had on a short time ago.
Does anyone know where Orleans Parish Prison is locasted?
Yes. It was the Parish president of Plaquemines or something talking about the levy there on WWL.
SEND RUDY GIULIANI!!!
I'm perfectly serious, he's up to the challenge and the local pols are NOT. He could be appointed to some special post.... otherwise, put the best d----- military officer in the area in charge and tell the pols to shut up and take orders.
"It's the Mississippi levy alright -- in Plaqueminnes Parish. That's farther down river from New Orleans. There is no news on WWL about the levys at the river in New Orleans."
So there IS a river breach, but down stream from NO.
Maybe GOD has had enough of Cindy's posturing. ;-)
They forgot to mention what he said immediately after, "and please buy my book."
