The attached is a video from WWL TV in New Orleans. The mayor of New Orleans gives a very detailed report of the condition of the city. As bad as the national news is painting the picture, it falls short of the devastation that has occurred.
There are 8 refineries located in the New Orleans to Mobile areas. Nearly 1/2 of all the gasoline in the country is refined here. These are all shut down, and they don't know for how long. Even if they were capable of running the refineries, there will be a huge shortage of workers as they have evacuated. All of Metarie, Slidell, Mandeville, Kenner, etc is under water and there is no place for them to come home to. Large oil super tankers will not be able to off load to the refineries even if they could run. The pipelines and transport facilities are all in jeopardy.
The New Orleans port and the Mississippi River structure carries nealy 1/4th of the entire countries goods and equipment. The export and import of goods will cease for a long period of time. Fill up your tanks, stock up your goods. Prices will be rising

Paxton's from Ft. Worth. His family owns a nice hardwood supply place, Paxton Hardwoods.
I don't know, but Fox is reporting that 80% of NO is flooded.

I'm going to the store, now!!!!!!!!
Silly, it goes for salaries for the highly motivated, highly efficent, effective and hard working city employess most of whom are oppressed and disadvantaged "minorities" only seeking equality and a nice politically correct lifestyle.

You're right...that was a stupid question. LOL
You run an add in the paper or post notices in your work place. Odds are favorable that you'll find a carpooling partner....
So many variables...live in Sterling, work in Southfield? Days, evenings or nights? Monday-Friday or alternating 12's? Smoker? I know they have computers for this, but in many metros they are useless. The only good thing about this price shock is that it may kick start some alt.fuel research and more importantly development. People with Taurus FFV's may be sitting pretty, I don't know.
New Orleans really has gone from bad to worse. Somehow, all those people who stayed behind are going to have to be evacuated. The possibility of disease spreading through that city is just too great. And it will take weeks at the very least to cope with the problems created by the flood.
"Government intervention doesn't mean more government, it may mean less."
With that clarification, we are in agreement.
You'll never be able to succeed if you don't try. You are right in one thing tho', it is easier to complain and make excuses than it is to come up with solutions to the problems.
Milk and toilet paper run out first. Then canned goods.
I am curious about two economic activities: (1) New Orleans is a regional banking and finance center, and in fact has a branch of the Atlanta Fed on St. Charles Avenue -- I wonder what will happen with its activities, especially with items in process and (2) how much of a railroad hub is New Orleans, and how much of an impact will this disaster have on rail use in the U.S.?
Fox has a banner on its website saying that the Superdome has been ordered evacuated. Don't see an actual story yet.
That made me blow my drink out my nose.......
Don't know what his politics are but sure hope he's not a screaming lib.
I wonder if the "international community" is going to step up to the plate and return some of the generosity shown by Americans.
In fact, I hate to say it, but I'm wondering whether Americans will.

I can sell you some of the bottled water and canned soup and tuna I bought for the Aug 16th Islamofascist nuking of the US as advised by Joseph Farrah at World Net Daily. I'm offering a special on canned mushrooms (no pun intended), they were on "sale".
Yep, looters tape has been shelved.
