Here's a link to a discussion board somebody posted.

It's for info on Slidell. It's grim.

With what is going to happen to the US Economy just from this hurricane aftermath, a terrorist strike would deal a lethal blow to us.

A lethal blow? I am sure you didn't quite mean that.

That's it. www.wwltv.com

I was talking about the radio station, which I could pick up in the pre-dawn hours. Actually more solid info than one gets from the talking heads on the boob tube.

Would be great if someone in daylight range could monitor that radio station.

So are we supposed to buy their insurance, buy their school supplies, buy their shoes, too?

http://www.policyreview.org/spring95/moorth.html Depends on your interpretation of the US Constitution.... Many folks would place that under "provide for the general welfare...".

Clorox would work to clean up their water, but who managed to carry out a bottle of clorox.

Not to change the topic...(but I suppose hurricane/natl disaster survival wouldn't be that off topic) but could you answer this?

X amount of bleach will treat Y amount of water for Z amount of time.

I was trying to find a live feed for the radio station and ended up at the tv station forums.

I just found this site, which might be helpful to some people. Hurricane Katrina Survivor Locator Boardshttp://www.createforum.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=katrinasurvivor.

Posting both looking for people and survivors are posting if they think someone is looking for them. Not many yet, but might help.

(sorry I didn't have time to set up the link, running late to work)

That Slidell message board is very grim.

I think we will see more and more today about how very bad it is. The bunk about NO dodging the big one is erroneous. The weather service saying those huge numbers on wind etc. make the media think because it came in at 145 it wasn't so bad. They are soooo wrong.

This is a disaster in the making. People will be displaced for a long time. The levees are still breeching today.

Alabama and Misssissippi will eventually show complete devastation along the shoreline and who knows how far inland.

Thank you.

I'm beginning to wonder how long it is going to be before we even realize how bad this storm was.

"Dodged a bullet" my ass.

I'm sure you don't really mean that because it's a load of defeatist nonsense. If your name was "Dick Durbin" I could understand the thought behind that comment. I don't expect it here.

Just in the last 75 years, the U.S. hung strong to overcome a decade long depression, win brutal World Wars, and even the turmoil and defeat of Vietnam. Certainly we are hearty enough to survive a punch from Mother Nature and (Gd forbid) another terrorist attack. I believe in this country that much at least, and not out of simple patriotism, but with history backing me up.

Yes, economic pain is going to come from this, and no doubt another (Gd forbid) attack would exacerbate it. But I don't think it would be a fatal blow. The (pro) American people are strong. We fight back when evil attempts to tread on us. You know that!

its typical correspondants not knowing new orleans lingo like the correspondants didnt even know where kenner and metarie were for heavens sake.

Same for the major industry in the area. They keep saying "oil rig" to mean both production platform and drilling rig. Huge difference in problems they each create.

Was reading the story about the levee break, and listening to the video report from Mayor Nagil - it is grim. The hospitals are in bad shape too, with too many people to evac.

Exactly. While watching CNN last night (they have the best coverage-though it pains me to say) Aaron Brown said it's impossible for us to grasp the big picture yet...it's too vast in size and scope.

Here's a link to a website that gives techniques for purifying water. It has Clorox/water ratios.

OMG- I'm listening to the replay now. This is completely beyond our ability to grasp...bridges down..80% of NO flooded...oil leaking from a ship..it goes on and on..

Staggering.

I have been a red cross volunteer through two hurricanes, and I can assure you that diapers are readily available at all shelters. Formula, pedialyte and diapers are priority supplies provided by the Red Cross.
