Hey Peach,

Yesterday somebody posted a good map of NO, and it showed Slidell and the other places they're talking about.

Probably in order again, so if anybody has a map of NO, could you post it for us that are "geographically ignorant" of the layout of NO and surrounding cities.

Hi, Dawn. GOod suggestion.

When I put my contacts in, I'll get out the atlas too and look for Slidell. I just can't place it.

I checked the Slidell city website and it states Slidell is within the St. Tammany Parish.

Yesterday my neighbor and I went to WalMart and bought 20 cases of water. When the Salvation Army here in town gets organized, we'll take the water there to be shipped to the gulf.

I'm also going through my old clothes today, and my husband's, and donate those. Anyone with old blankets, sheets, etc., donations will be needed.

Thank you for that information.

So aside for looking for information specific to Slidell, we can look for information about St. Tammany Parish and give that to freeper Alnick via links for her to read.

Her internet time is limited.

I feel sorry for the mayor today. I think he's in so over his head (no pun intended).

"Where is Slidell? Freeper Alnick evauated to Tennessee and needs info about her hometown."

Slidell in on the Northshore; the northshore of Lake Ponchartrain. There's basically two ways in. I-10 twin spans which are now underwater and also has sections missing. Unusuable for months. Then there's the route of Metairie (Southshore) over the Causeway bridge (over Lake Ponchartrain) and take highway 190 thru Mandeville, Big Branch, Lacombe, then you hit Slidell. But I'm positive that way is inpenetrable right now too.

Hubby's going into work in Baton Rouge today and hopefully, being an hour closer to ground zero might have more to report soon.

Say what you want about CNN, but situations like this show that CNN is apparently the only real

Well, may be that CNN is in Atlanta and FNC/PMSNBC is New Yahk?

Slidell is NE of NOLA, between Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi border. "The water is so high that it's covering the twin span" [I10 bridge over the lake into Slidell], according to reporter on WDSU-TV just now.

When you get a further report from your husband, could you ping freeper Alnick and/or me and include again the information you posted above?

I'd like to give her a comprehensive report as her internet time is extremely limited.

Thank you so much, LibSnubber.

Yeah, they're going to need water, for sure.

Last year when Charley hit down in Charlotte County, friends of ours would load up their pick up with cases of water and drive them down (we're in south St. Pete, so it's only a couple hours drive.)

Water always seems to be the thing that can't keep enough of.

Just thinking about all those people in the city now, with no tap water, makes you wonder how they're going to keep from getting diseases like typhoid, etc. There's no way to get water to them, and you have to have water, so they'll resort to drinking unclean water.

Clorox would work to clean up their water, but who managed to carry out a bottle of clorox.

Latest stories on the Alexandria Town Talk site support my previous posts on these threads. Hotel guests are being told they must check out of their rooms, but at the same time, they are told they can't come home. Plenty of campers in Wal-Mart parking lots. Local businesses such as restaurants and supermarkets are doing booming business, no problems at gas stations. One hotel which usually advertises rooms for $31.99 was caught charging $170 for a double. Lots of impromptu family reunions, with some people hosting 25-50 guests at their homes. KALB is starting to broadcast information about local tourist attractions like the Alexandria Zoo and T.R.E.E. House because evacuee parents are trying to keep their restless families occupied.

Prayers to everyone affected.

Main Street in Ocean Springs is filled with many quaint little shops and restaurants (Very good restaurants I might add). Oaks trees hovered the streets creating a very picturesque scene.

CNN just seems better prepared to cover it. Their pictures are better, their reporters seem to get places that matter, the woman (can't remember her name) who called this Armaggedon seems to be places that no other reporter is able to get.

CNN also taps into local feeds and video...don't know if Fox does, but CNN had far superior reporting yesterday, and I was trying to give Fox a chance by switching back there often.

And what I kept seeing on Fox was old video of that guy standing out in the middle of the hurricane and Shep talking from his balcony.

Never did see the guy that had been at the Dome, Jeff Goldblatt...what became of him?

This would be an ideal time for the terrorists to strike.
What are the waiting for?
With what is going to happen to the US Economy just from this hurricane aftermath, a terrorist strike would deal a lethal blow to us.

Peach, if you get info on the status of Slidell please ping me.

I'm getting pretty worried by the silence out of there.

I wondered that all day yesterday. He was at the Dome all day Sunday, saying he was staying there and then Monday nada from him.

Shep's coverage was just odd. Harrigan should have been stopped, it was morbid to watch him. imho

Hotel guests are being told they must check out of their rooms

With the state of emergency in place, this will likely not be enforceable.

Ok. Well on this we can agree....Shepard Smith is an idiot and I turn it off when he comes on. In fact, I usually click it off before Brit does his closing "funny" segment to make sure I don't hear that pipsqueak's voice!
