CNN is covering ongoing rescue attempts in the place you were asking about.

Loaded ... and thank God more people are getting saved. Reporter: The water levels are rising .. more treachery .. actually .. some areas like Metarie, are inaccessible to rescue efforts --have 8-10 ft. of water there and then dry land .. so they can't go in there with a boat.

WoW .. the challenges these good people are facing, dogged in their pursuit of rescuing the helpless and stranded.

Well, no matter the number, they are alive. They will be rescued.

One of those pontoon/party boat things would make a good SAR craft in this situation, and they can carry a LOT of people.

I fear a lot of people headed to the attic, thinking it was high enough, then the water came in.. Again, hope I'm wrong.

As I understand it, the term 'causualties' usually refers to victims, or injured, or a combined number of injured and dead. Are you talking about the cameraman on CNN? If so, I am pretty sure he was talking about persons needing to be rescued.

It refers to injured and dead combined; you're correct.

But in the popular media, virtually universally, it's mis-used to refer to dead only. This is a serious problem because emergency management agencies and the military do use the term correctly.

The pic of the bridge that I posted came from here:

http://www.gatesofdixie.com/New_Orleans/new_orleans.html

The caption is this:

"Lake Pontchartrain is home to what we now suspect is the second longest over-water bridge in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, originally built in 1956. The twin spans of the Causeway (the second span, 80 feet away handles traffic in the opposite direction and was opened in 1969) is an amazing 23.8 miles across, and is held in place by 9,000 concrete pilings. During the day, as you approach the middle of the bridge, you can see no land in either direction. At night, you can faintly see the city lights. An eerie feeling until you get used to it. Click the pic to visit their website."

I am kind of confused if that picture was the right one.

I saw what looked like one boat, with a glob of people packed in there. But she said there were dozens of boats who left from somewhere at 6am this morning to make this trek to help.

I was watching TWC and must have missed that. Where channel did you hear that on, and did you catch who said that?

Airboats, and I saw that post, too. They're good for light usage - can't carry too many people, but they're fast and are no-draft craft.

Yes, 30 dead in one complex. This was likely one of the areas hit by pure surge... building completely gone. The stuff near NO is less surge, and more general flooding. But, the water came up so fast..

I'm watching CNN. They are having better coverage than the other stations. They have a lot more facts than FNC.
