I am looking for any information on Slidell and the north shore. I think it probably got a direct hit from the wall of the storm. This area has gone entirely unmentioned by the media and it may well turn out to have suffered the worst damage. Many, many people there didn't think they needed to evacuate. Please post what you hear.
A classmate of mine is one of the guys flying the C-130. He sent email saying that this is the first storm he's flown that nearly ejected him out of his seat.
He was glad to get the plane on the tarmac and it had definitely sustained damage that had rendered it unairworthy.
Reports from Gulfport seem to support that the storm surge there was at least 27', maybe 30'.
Mary is all wet!
You did see what they were talking about, though?

I'm sure he is fine at his job...but to put yourself (and support staff) in direct harm's way for no good reason ????I dont get it.
Hey who is that guy in #3216? He looks familiar...a famous bear hunter? I know a guy who was stalked by a bear while snowmobiling. He fired a few shots at the bear but thinks he missed him. The bear ran off.
Bump!
I pay passing/slight attention, but have been likewise impressed. Prayers for those in the face of this storm.
yes, the storm bobbled...but that caused no difference in the affects that nola encountered....they got the worse that could be expected accept for if the storm was 50 miles to the west......the "jog" did nothing.
Just heard that flooding in Sidell is "serious"...That's all. Local ABC affiliate.
State rep trapped at courthouse building in Bernard parish on second floor.
May our Dear Lord surround your wife and co-workers with protection and safety. Prayers continuing for all the suffering souls in this disaster.
New Orleans took a beating, no doubt about that. But it would have been far worse if Katrina had stayed on track.
My sister did not make it out. She held up in her house 1 mile inland in Pascagoula, Ms. We grew up with these storms and my family understands them very well. We spent the night on the phone yelling at her. I am very familiar with what she is facing. I am very ill to my stomach right now and it could be sometime before I hear anything. I am at work so thank you to those posting. Any info on MS coast between Gulfport and Mobile will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Katrina worst ever for Entergy
Entergy President Dan Packer said work crews would begin assessing damage to the power system Tuesday. But this much he already knows: Hurricane Katrina will go down as the worst the utility has ever experienced.
The situation Monday afternoon was "the worst we've had in our company's history,'' he said on WWL radio.
Packer said more than 700,000 customers - about 100 percent of the utility's customers in southeast Louisiana - were without power as of Monday afternooon.
He said the company's second-worst power outage was during Hurricane Georges, when some 265,000 customers had no electricty.
