The worst part of the wind is pushing the lake now.

I'm just guessing on this but that first high water MUST have come from the lake. If the Quarter's levee broke... that's the river and very bad news.

"CNN is doing a good job covering this even though I favor FOX."

A better job, IMO. Fox is too negative. Did you see and hear Geraldo last night? Crazy. Fox always but this hurricane I'm on CNN, facts not hysterics.

There was a small westward wobble an hour ago or so which put the eyewall into eastern NO (and strong N winds into the whole city). It was an unlucky wobble for them.

"I think that the media wants to make this storm look much worse than what it really is because for the 48 hours they have been hyping it at the worst storm to ever hit the United States and they just do not want to be proven wrong in their predictions as they usually are most of the time."

they always do....everything is a soap opera drama with the media grubs. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog would make a great actor reporter.

Have you seen any satellite photos? Damages will be difficult to assess until there are "boots on the ground".

---WBRZ is reporting that 125 people in the 9th Ward have had to climb up onto the roofs of their homes due to rising water. The 9th ward is surrounded on three sides by water. This is probably close to the levee breach at Tennessee St. at the Industrial Canal.---

That happened in the same general area during Betsy....

RE: In fact, I don't recall hearing ANY Louisiana officials willing to step up to the plate and tell people to evacuate. It finally took the President to lean on the mayor and governor to do something. Even then, they still had a wishy-washy attitude.

I didn't hear this! Is there a link?

Sick stuff. The President of the USA had to become DADDY to the senators of Louisiana, the Governor and the MAYOR of NO.

These state officials delayed and DELAYED warning their people out of a fear of backlash if the storm missed um and they had all had to leave their homes for NOTHING!

Oh yeah.

And Senator Landrieau had the GALL to go on TV just moments ago and BLAME the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT for not taking care of HER PEOPLE in the NO AREA.

This woman IS A PART OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Where was SHE over the past few days....out and mayor and holding press conferences in order to WARN their people? HELL NO!

Like our President, she and ALL congressfolk and senators are on a FULL MONTH OF VACATION....what was she doing yesterday and today......preparing her statement to blame President Bush? While she is doing NOTHING to help the people in her state prepare for this disaster ?????

She is not a grown up .... she does not care about the safety of the people in her state.....she waited for DADDY to have to ORDER the Governor and mayor to ORDER an EVACUATION...

This is the height of irresponsibility.

This woman needs to be thrown out of office, along with the Governor and mayor....all children who care only, ONLY, about looking good. TO hell with the safety of their people.

You can find references to President Bush's evacuation order on Saturday AM..on the thread previous to this one and the one before that...this is VIII, I think, so VII and VI will have the info.

On this one I agree. Fox news is being dramatic to the nth degree.

Ya think? Yesterday one reporter kept saying over and over and over that , THERE WON'T BE ENOUGH BODY BAGS. Sheesh, I was waiting for them to show the trucks bringing in the body bags.
