Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Don't think he is reading FR posts at this time but he knows what is going on and will continue to be the leader that he is. No doubt about that.

That pic of the eye is just awesome. I am humbled just looking at it. I have never seen anything quite so symmetrical, so elegant, so beautiful, so terrible, so frightening.

"If that was the Governor, I'm pretty underwhelmed that she wasn't able light a fire under the Mayor's arse and get him to order a mandatory evacuation much sooner than he did."

Kathleen Blanco is just as clueless as Mayor Nagin. And it was probably Pres. Bush who lit the fire under BOTH of these losers.

The Old River control is most likely to go with spring flooding with extra high water coming down river...

My father's family came from the New Orleans area. We have lots of relatives spread out from Brazoria Co Texas all the way over to Florida.

Everyone keep in mind the Big Easy is below sea level. This will be a night remembered to be sure.

The wind blowing OVER your roof is putting pressure DOWN on it much in the same way wind flowing over race cars help push them down on the track.

No. Please don't add ignorance to this thread. Professor Bernoulli reminds us that air in motion has less pressure than stationary air. Any framing carpenter can tell you about the straps they use to hold the roof DOWN when the wind blows hard.

(When you have a house on stilts that lets air pass under it like the space under a car, you can take up the analogy again.)

please place your hands over the people in the path of this storm and spare their lives. We ask this in Christs name. Amen.

Superdome will top out at 30-35,000. They expect the field and ground level to be underwater.

Can you imagine? 35,000 people in the Superdome looking down as the field beings to flood. Imagine the panic as thousands of people rush to the upper deck as the water level rises. Granted, the water could never go more than several feet high but the natural response is to panic when you are in an enlosed area that is flooding - especially if you are claustrophobic.
