Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Sorry. I was listening and didn't see her or any banner under her name.

If that was the Governor, I'm pretty underwhelmed that she wasn't able light a fire under the Mayor's arse and get him to order a mandatory evacuation much sooner than he did.

I heard the reporter at the Dome say 102 bathrooms....72,000 people....

Doesn't this translate into several toilets per restroom?

Shep Smith: "Where do you go now?"

Go to the lobby of the tallest building in town. Insist on or DEMAND transport to the top. Life will be a shitstorm for a few weeks, but life WILL go on.

Unless the Cat-5 winds topple the building.

Miz, they keep going back and forth (like me). I'm wondering how many of those restrooms are on the lower levels which may flood out?

A new toy, DJ? Congrats!

Hi, US Army. I'm glad you didn't make that choice too. Hope your house building project is working out well. I tell a lot of people about the guy who knew Audi Murphy and served with him that we met at lunch.

Actually were it not for human-built structures the Mississippi would ALREADY be going down the Atchafalaya;

Over time the Mississippi naturally switches around its exit in the delta,We've been artificially preventing it from switching from New Orleans to the Atchafalaya.

The FNC is now resigned to this as being a "colossal tragedy".

It's hard to see an alternative.

Wonder if they issued ammunition to the guard.

Good question. In LA during the Rodney King riots, the National Guard was deployed without ammunition. They couldn't find the key to the ammo or something.

...since the mayor told his people at his morning presser..and Dubya declared LA and MISS disaster areas on FRIDAY night..I'd say the mayor was a tad slow..
