Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

God does what his sovereign will determines. We just ask him to spare NO. He listens, but may choose to say no.

Wouldn't a low yeild nuke break the storm up with little fallout...or do I need to adjust my tinfoil cap?

Criminals. NO has a lot of street crime. And I understand the authorities are searching people sheltering in the dome for concealed weapons.

But you implied that all the folks in the Dome are of the "criminal class." Not true, and rather unfair if you ask me.

OMG, did you hear him say "I have to do mental gymnastics all day". He sounds totally defeated and helpless.

What story did he hear last nite that he said scared him into a evac?

He does sound a little too laid back, but I suspect he merely has a slow metabolism.

I tried to describe the mayor at #394.

every other word is "you know",

If the people of New Orleans honestly elected this doofus, shame on them. If he stole the election, I'm sooo sorry!

Did I read correctly on here that no food is being provided in that shelter?

You're right. At the very least the NG should be out confiscating food supplies from the grocery stores that have shut down instead of searching women and children.

considering the models show it strengthening really close to land, I somehow doubt that. But, hopefully he is right.

In short, those people trapped in high-rise buildings stand a good chance of living through this thing, so don't give up hope yet.

Why not open up all high-rise buildings and use the top floors as temporary shelters for people to ride out the storm?

Better than leaving them at ground level to perish in the floods.

The field can probably hold some more people

Only if they are good swimmers. On an earlier thread, there was an indication that if NO floods, the field and lower level would be under water.

"there were computer models predicting an LA hit as early as 7am Friday, strong model agreement on such by 2pm, at 4pm there was a weather service call to move the track west towards a S. Mississippi hit with possible further westward shifts, and by 8pm Friday night Gov. Blanco had declared a state of emergency."

So they should have been preparing people for the possibility of mass mandatory evacuations by noon on Friday (could say "stay tuned" for confirmation) and by Fri. afternoon they should have been calling for all citizens except emergency personnel and essential workers to evacuate.... they had more than 48 hours.... now watch, if the carnage is as bad as it could be it will all be Bush's fault....

Btw, someone earlier had a Freudian slip and called it The Superdoom.

Normally, I'd be LOL at that one.

If the roof blows off that thing, whoever was responsible for the design is going to feel awful bad about it. It reminds me of what an umbrella does when you try to open it in a very strong wind.

Thanks for that link, shezza. And Dog Gone, I'm beginning to picture potentially thousands of people dying in this thing. I gotta get away from the television! Fox keeps saying words like "catastrophic," "devastating," "ferocity," "enormous".... Yikes. And when is Shep going to get his rear end out of there?!
