Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Traffic jams always happen when there is an evacuation. What I can't imagine is someone who had a car and waited until Sunday afternoon to leave NO. Often times in low areas the water rises and the cars are stalled in it. Leave early or stay where you are, is the rule. This storm is so bad staying is not an option.

The Satanic Green Bean Casserole. Straight from hell's pantry. ;)

LOL! OMG, my mother made Green Bean Casserole every Thanksgiving....canned green beans, canned fried onion rings, etc.

Come to think of it, I never really liked it. I guess it's a midwestern family thing ;)

I make a roux for red beans and rice. We like them to have a little thickner.

AF 305 Recon WC130 is in NW eyewall.

Getting this secondhand but looks like she is still 904 MB. Will post for sure as soon as I can confirm.

Might as well hit Vegas... it's on the way and there's lots of sin there.

True, and there is a lot of sin everywhere.

Red Beans are the easiest Cajun dish to make. The only thing that doesn't require a roux.

Yes! I trained my yankee, Italian wife to make red beans and rice early on and she's become a master. You're right... Rouxs can be tough. Takes work. I can do it well when I'm not being lazy...:-)

People bringing in wrenches to the super dome and confiscated. I could think of other things to bring if I could only take a few things from home.

Chris Matthews will soon be blaming Bush for not stopping "global warming." And Keith Olberamm will probably follow.

Matthews reminds me of "Spanky" in "Our Gang". He's forceful and funny, but ignorant and naive. Olberam is so sophomoric that he is essentially unwatchable. I'd rather observe a corpse for 30 minutes.

She called a state of emergency Friday night about 7PM, I think. Whatever time it was, it was Friday night. WTF would she do that for if she didn't know the storm was coming. I am so mad!

Meteorologist on WWL makes a credible case that she is in an eyewall replacement cycle right now with the doppler RADAR out of Slidell. If so, she has plenty of time to finish and intensify. I hope he is incorrect.

"We are facing a storm that most of us have long feared," Mayor Ray Nagin said in ordering the mandatory evacuation for his city of 485,000 people, surrounded by suburbs of a million more. "The storm surge will most likely topple our levee system."
Conceding that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport, the city arranged buses to take people to 10 last-resort shelters, including the Superdome.

WWL saying it looks like another eye replacement cycle could take place before landfall, meaning the storm could strengthen a bit. Also the eye is already west of the mouth of the Mississippi, not good news.
