Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

"people are getting nervous here...."
I meant in New England, getting batteries and what-not. Although filling up the gas tank today might not be a bad idea.
I did not mean that it was incorrect for folks to be nervous about the seriousness of the storm.
My bad.
Prayers up. I was thinking of all the Tulane and other college kids who're probably just starting to arrive for the school year. I hope you get in touch w/your son soon.
Rest rooms in the Superdome: 102 (51 women's & 51 men's)
Hmmm. If 14,000 folks are let in, that is 137 persons per rest room. If 40,000 "guests" are let in, that is 392 per rest room. Will they have enough toilet paper and paper towels? Where will they take the paper waste to when the dome is surrounded with water? Where will the waste go when everything else is under water?
Not a place I'd want to be.
Latest track: Landfall Monday morning but storm has sped up a little. Morgan City, LA to Alabama border are target areas.
Since they have nothing better to do, I think they should all be rounded up and volunteered for disaster relief.
I heard that about Ascension. We are 7 miles to the East Baton Rouge Parish line.
Sorry i got a new big flat screen and it looked bigger than that
Jim Cantore is in Biloxi.
I don't think anyone is directly in Gulfport.
Bil & Gulf are almost one and the same, right next to each other.
It looks like the Causeway Bridge still has two way traffic. Why is it not all one-way by now?
I saw the picture you posted...she is a little darling.
Can you believe Bastardi gave a report NO would be spared on FoxNews???!!!
"On Fox or CNN last night, they said for all concerned about Tulane students, go to Tulane's web site. They've moved the students to another university. Can't remember which one, but you'll probably see it on their site."
They are being bussed to Jackson State University. The university is not really in a good part of town, either.
In the 1950s there were "bomb toilets"....they were complete with instructions;chemicals/toiletpaper & designed to accomadate 50 people. I hope they have something like them.
Water & toilets would be part of the "years of planning for this" I pray.

"All the commercial buildings I put up (in non-hurricane territory) were spec'ed to withstand 40
pound per square foot lateral (wind) loads.
Formula for figuring wind pressure.
P=K(Vsq.) K=.005 over 100mph,= .004 below 100mph
That translates to 175mph= 153 lb/sq. ft."
My information came from the engineer who designed the structure. I do not have the hydraulics background to contest your statement.
The Army Corps of Engineers has already said that one day the river is going to win the fight and that they are just forestalling the inevitable. New Orleans will be a ghost town and the Atchafalya will become the river of choice for a port.
How long do you think it will take the trial lawyers to pounce if the Superdome does sustain substantial damage? Maybe we can have a betting pool. I'm saying 1 week to get the first case filed.
The cell phone banks have been terribly overloaded. Prayers for your son's safety. Please let us know when you hear from him.
