I finally go in touch with relatives in South Florida via cell. They said this was the worst Cat 1 they have been through. They said the winds were very under rated and had considerable damage. Power is still out.

This order is according to the weather channel. I still can't find it on the net, frustratingly enough.
Regardless, any freeper left in southern Louisiana and as possibly as far east as Mobile is not being very smart.
I would strongly advise leaving anyway.

My niece and her family live in N.O. My brother, other niece, and her family all live in Mobile. I hope everyone will get out before it's too late. Prayers for all involved.

Station some National Guard in the Superdome. I read they looted it the last time they used it as a shelter.

It's now a category 4.
145 mile per hours sustained winds.
It will be devastating.

I'm seeing on other forums that news stations are not saying mandatory evac. I'm not sure what the weather channel is pushing. Local news stations on other boards (eastern us weather) say no mandatory evac, but do it anyway
In short. Weather channel just screwed up. But leave anyway.

The government has no business making an evacuation "mandatory". If you choose to stay, you takes your chances.

So if there's a mandatory evac, why aren't the authorities forcing the establishments to shut down. I've looked at a couple of current webcams and there are people still wandering around Bourbon Street and other areas.
Here's a live webcam link:

I looked up those stories last year.....hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage....they thought the Superdome was going to feed them for a week too!
