Hurricane warnings and watches are posted. Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast models continue to converge upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this very large and dangerous storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. There have been reports of coastal animals leaving in droves for higher ground. Meanwhile, New Orleans continues to suggest that residents evacuate.

OMG...I'm ALMOST speechless. The governor said that President Bush called and told them to order mandatory evac of NO. THAT is apparently when it was decided.

Listening to them ...I hear the twilight zone theme in the background.

Illiteracy is no excuse for irresponsibility. I hope he is held accountable for the deaths that, God forbid, may happen due to his inaction.

I am just sick. We are going to witness the worst natural disaster in American history and there's not a damn thing we can do about it.

They should put things in the hand of that military guy in the background over these people.

Too late now.

got the distinct impression that if Bush had not called, they would not have ordered a mandatory evac.

I got that impression too. Amazing.

Have they reversed incoming lanes on the evacuation routes?

Not per images I've seen.

These ain't the folks you want around in a time of crisis. They are acting so apathetic, so casual! They don't seem to give a sh*t! They are talking about this with no sense of urgency!

Unbelievable...they need someone to take charge and make things happen. These guys are placing all their eggs in the superdomwe...but its going to fill rapidly.

They have gridlock in the city and the outerbands are now hitting the outerbanks.

They need the National Guard in there to help now.

When are they going to get a clue and open the opposite lanes of the I-10 to outbound traffic? Mississippi already has, what's Louisiana waiting for?

The NO officials are moving so slowly. Once again, reactive rather than proactive.

Why do you think it's called the "Big Easy". Not famous for Type A personalities....

Yes, it seems Dubya pushed state and local officials into doing what they should have been doing last night! Mayor says conditions will rapidly deteriorate by 5-7 PM...only about a six hour window left.

"Between the governor and the mayor--I am sputtering..."

Hate to say it, but it's liberal government at its worst. Totally reactive, never proactive. I've been praying for God to protect us not only from Katrina, but also from Blanco and Nagin.

Blanco also mentioned she talk to President Bush. I hope Cindy Sheehan isn't watching. She'll want to become a Governor....

Who's the tall guy behind the governor who keeps fidgeting with the brown undershirt?

Nat. Guard General up now. Let's put him in charge!
