Press Ignores Astonishing Reenlistment Rate(The good news the MSM is not reporting!)
CROSSWALK.COM ^ | August 5, 2005 | Michael Medved

Posted on 08/24/2005 8:46:05 AM PDT by kellynla

Recent media coverage has given extended time to the Army's difficulties in signing new recruits while largely ignoring the phenomenal recent success in getting combat veterans to re-enlist.

The Army is already far ahead of the pace needed to reach its goal of persuading 64,162 current enlisted men, from privates to top sergeants, to commit to additional service.

Among elite units bearing the brunt of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, overwhelming numbers want to return to the fight: the 82nd Airborne, for instance, reached an astonishing 97 percent of its yearly re-enlistment goal by the end of May!

These numbers show that alarming press coverage of fighting in Iraq may scare away some civilians from military service, but those who know the situation first hand feel disproportionately eager to continue the struggle.

Despite any stateside skepticism, the rising numbers of reenlistments prove that our men and women in uniform overwhelmingly believe in their mission, and want to insure its ultimate success

Okay, I just got a confirmation on the reenlistments.
As far as the Marine Corps goes, the Marines are offering $20K bonus for grunt reenlistments. There's been NO THREAT concerning being activated out of inactive reserve.

Maybe enlistments are up because the press did such an outstanding job in publicizing the fact that the military wasn't meeting its quotas that many great Americans enlisted.

Think it's possible?

I hope so.

Try again "Matt Lauer interviews soldiers in Baghdad and then has trouble believing them when they tell him their morale is good and couldn't be better." http://www.schnittshow.com/main.html

Good point. I never thought of that. But I also suspect the more obvious explanation: Why enlist in the reserves if you're going to be active immediately?

Thanks for the info. I knew I could count on FReepers.

I wish guys like Reagan had this kind of information right at their fingertips, but then again, they have no idea what some caller might throw at them at any given time. It's impossible to be prepared for everything.

That certainly plays a big part, along with a strong economy, blatant & public attacks against recruiters, and a media and government officials that mock our military. And the risk of a military career really hits home when the bullets are flying.

I think the next military operation should be to search and destroy all the socialist press offices around the Republic. Then start on all the socialist democrat safe havens. Those operations would of course cost billions and take years to root out.

I heard this on the radio this morning. I don't know who's talk show it was or who the guest was, but he has a book with a section that talks about troop morale and reenlistment. It's definitely not what's being reported by the DemonRat media.

My nephew just re-enlisted and my son is trying to get in, but needs a bunch of waivers. The nephew LOVES the Army.

Well I hope you can confirm what reenlistment incentives are being offered and that there have NOT been any threats made to those who are getting out!

Make sure he re-ups while in the sand box. Tax free puts more in his pocket. Hate to get it from Uncle Sam only to hand it back in taxes.

He's not at all inclined to reenlist. Two tours of combat as a grunt are all he wants. Had to put into body bags too many good friends. He wants to come home and go to school.

Got that right.

The MSM hate the very country they are supposed to serve.

Gives me an excellent excuse not to have any love for them.

Well give him a pat on the back for a "Job well done" from me when you next see him.

All who wear the uniform of a Sailor,Airman,Marine or Soldier should get a big "Job well done" from the rest of us. No matter if they served in peace or war, they have served this country.

Yes, the talk show hosts are on this. I heard the reenlistment numbers yesterday from either Limbaugh or Hugh Hewitt...(can't remember which one discussed this subject.) It's quite amazing considering the number of KIA and wounded we've had over there. This looks like a sign of strong morale and a sense of high purpose in the mission they're accomplishing in Iraq.

Don't forget the Army (Active duty, Reserves, and National Guard), Navy, Air Force, and Marines are all meeting their new enlistment quotas as well. Take that CNN, NYT, LAT, TIME, NEWSWEEK, WP, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CINDY SHEEHAN, MOVEON.ORG, HOWARD DEAN, DENNIS KUCINICH, KATIE, .........
