Press Ignores Astonishing Reenlistment Rate(The good news the MSM is not reporting!)
CROSSWALK.COM ^ | August 5, 2005 | Michael Medved

Posted on 08/24/2005 8:46:05 AM PDT by kellynla

Recent media coverage has given extended time to the Army's difficulties in signing new recruits while largely ignoring the phenomenal recent success in getting combat veterans to re-enlist.

The Army is already far ahead of the pace needed to reach its goal of persuading 64,162 current enlisted men, from privates to top sergeants, to commit to additional service.

Among elite units bearing the brunt of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, overwhelming numbers want to return to the fight: the 82nd Airborne, for instance, reached an astonishing 97 percent of its yearly re-enlistment goal by the end of May!

These numbers show that alarming press coverage of fighting in Iraq may scare away some civilians from military service, but those who know the situation first hand feel disproportionately eager to continue the struggle.

Despite any stateside skepticism, the rising numbers of reenlistments prove that our men and women in uniform overwhelmingly believe in their mission, and want to insure its ultimate success

The 82nd riggers can put anything under a canopy. If its needed on the ground they can get it there.

But what would I know. To me a N/CE/MT was 10 guys off the ramp. Not quite the same as 60+/- out both doors.

I'm betting the media spins the reenlistment numbers into an unemployment issue, i.e. people are signing back up because they know there's no jobs to be had.

The MSM is acting just like the typical state-run communist propaganda media.

Rush Limbaugh is SO effective at analyzing MSM propaganda. Reading the MSM is just like Cold War era "Kremlinology."

That's because they are too busy with stories like this:
Declining Numbers: Military service academies try to figure out reasons for dramatic drop in applications

And this is from FOX of all places.

First off, I am not a troll. That said, here's my question.

Heard an interesting caller on Michael Reagan's show last night who said that if they don't re-enlist that they go on active reserve and get activated anyway, so if there are bonuses involved they re-enlist. Reagan didn't do a good job of responding to this, in my opinion. I'd really like to hear this refuted. Can anyone here do that?

Did you actually follow this link?  Leads to "cheerleaders" and "nipple shots", which, of course, I'm all for, but it's probably not the place you wanted to send anyone.

Maybe you can answer this question from "its for the children"? Have you heard anything about the reenlistment "incentives"?

Yep, you can already see the story being written as we speak.  Would be very typical of the MSM.  These guys are gonna fall hard and I can't wait to see it happen.

Thanks for the info. I'm always looking for conservative talk shows that I can hear online.

I think I just heard Rush mentioning it.

P.S. Another good talk show host who is climbing up the ladder is a Andrew Wilkow, who can be heard on WGY.com, M-F mornings, and on WABC Sunday mornings.

This is completely false. Once one leaves the active military component, you are placed in the Individual Ready Reserve status for between 2-4 years, depending on how long you served. While in this status, you don't report for duty, training, or anything like that, but there is a chance that you could be recalled to active duty. However, this activation is currently not going on. And usually before there is an activation, the offer chances for people to be voluntarily recalled, which would provide bonuses.

Number one son is Marine grunt with A/1/5 in Ramadi as we write. He says that the Marines are offering a $20K bonus for Marine grunt re-enlistments when the Marines are within a certain time period before the Marines' EAS. There are no threats to activate a Marine going into IRR after active duty. This sort of contention sounds silly to me since the military can always do a stop-loss anyway.
