They're gigantic! Monstrous! Flying with no direction....crashing into walls! In my hair! We had a tiny apartment....they were GARGANTUAN!!

Maybe they shrunk....we lived there in the 70's LOL

Western eyewall seems to be firing up now as it hits the coast.

Precisely why I was there for 30+ years, and I'm not in FL anymore ... these last two seasons are just breathtaking. Praying for all in the path of any and all. I lost it all in Andrew on Aug. 24, 1992 -- it was the FIRST named storm of that season. And look at things now .. yesterday, Aug. 24, there was K-Katrina and more coming .. just too stomach churning.

Rush lives on Ocean Drive on Palm Beach. Probably about a $20 million compound. Nice, but not nearly as nice as Greg Norman's place on Jupiter Island.

Yep this thing is about to move off the coast again. WAY WAY WAY ahead of schedule.

She is going to explode out there in the Gulf.

Thank you .. those pics are stunning ... the flooding has got to be unbelievable by now. Just on TV that Cutler Ridge area and south are getting 3-5 inches PER HOUR!

The only model with such a SW turn at any point put it in over South Louisiana.

And that's just the point. Right now, Katrina is only 10 miles away from Gulf waters, still not moving according to forecast. She'll be a hurricane again, if she was ever downgraded before sunrise.

And then what will stop her?

I'm not so worried about 2nd landfall right now as intensity. Landfall is secondary.

I remember that......you were AWOL a long time!

Seems much longer ago than 2003 -- it's been a busy couple of years...

Best of luck to everybody in FL and on the Gulf Coast...

The local Orlando weatherman Tom Terry said that the hurricane has been able to keep its strength because it has been over warm swamp water in south Florida!!

He had a place at the private resort and club I worked at for years in the Upper Keys .. I met him at a client's party there. He had a long-time girlfriend at that time, when I'd say he was in his 70's. Just found this Obituary .. he did marry her.

Thanks for the live thread. My sister is in Ft. Myers and finally got her roof repaired from last year. Her in-laws are on Sanibel, and my cousin is in Tallahassee.

I heard someone say 90 degrees F earlier today.
Within the last few days it was 94.2 degrees in the gulf off Clearwater Beach - prolly a little cooler when you get offshore but not much - the gulf is hot! We don' need no steekin' jacuzzies! ;-)
