From WTVJ: NHC says a CAT 2 by overnight Fri/Sat.

Lovely, although not unexpected. As the way it's set up now, the further west it makes landfall, the stronger it will be.

There's just no shear at present even in the western gulf.

All the buildings had gravel on their roofs. With winds whipping 100 mph all those rocks became little missiles and busted all the glass out of the high rises. It was a real mess.

but the water in the gulf is warmer, and warmer deeper, than it was in July

It's like a warm bathtub...

"And the Gulf is warmer than a bathtub right about now..."

I heard someone say 90 degrees F earlier today.

She went in so much of a SW direction that she's not going to spend much time over land at all. Good for Florida, but also good for the storm.

I dunno. I'm not buying the sharp northerly turn that the NHC is sticking with for now. They didn't predict the SW movement and that changes everything.

The weather guy, Joe Bastardo, (true name) said that the water off New Jersey is at 78-80 degrees.

"Richard Nixons ghost is rattling. Isn't Bay Biscayne where he had his house and Bebe Reboza used to visit. Strange pair, those two."

Yup. Ole Bebe. A lot of people won't know who you're talking about.

Brian Norcross on WFOR (I've got their signal back) is saying much the same thing.

Weren't they the weirdest pair. Both sort of dark and scheming and paranoid. I always wanted to be a fly on the wall to understand that friendship. It was really strange.

Did anyone ever write about Bebe and Nixon? I was so fascinated by them.

"There is a Key Biscayne, but I'm pretty sure there's a Bay Biscayne just a little north of Coral Gables."

Sorry, don't know that area at all. I just quoted what I saw/heard on The Weather Channel.

That's a pretty clear and fast link, but they were interviewing a guy whose car had been smashed by a tree. He said he was caught by surprise by this storm.

When was this thread started?

"Can you say HOUSTON, TEXAS...a major metro area...we had a small cat 3 in 1983 and the high rise buildings lost over a million dollars worth of class alone. These hugh, thick pieces of glass were falling all over downtown Houston...it was somethin'.... people lost electricity for 6 wks in some areas..."

Ugh. I was there. That is the first hurricane that scared me.
