The Islamic regime is to submerge part of Iran's past in a shameful historical cleansing, in order to avoid facing more nationalistic problems with future generations. The construction of a very controversial dam project is near completion and soon, the tomb of "Cyrus the Great" and "Persepolis" would be submerged under water.
Cyrus the Great (580-529 BC) (known as Kourosh in Persian; Kouros in Greek; Kores in Hebrew) was the first Achaemenian Emperor and founder of Iran, who issued a decree on his aims and policies, later hailed as his charter of the rights of nations. Inscribed on a clay cylinder, this is known to be the first declaration of Human Rights, and is now kept at the British Museum. A replica of this is also at the United Nations in New York. Part of his charter states: "I am Cyrus. King of the world. When I entered Babylon... I did not allow anyone to terrorize the land... I kept in view the needs of people and all its sanctuaries to promote their well-being... I put an end to their misfortune. The Great God has delivered all the lands into my hand; the lands that I have made to dwell in a peaceful habitation.... . .When my soldiers in great numbers peacefully entered Babylon... I did not allow anyone to terrorize the people... I kept in view the needs of people and all its sanctuaries to promote their well-being... Freed all the slaves... I put an end to their misfortune and slavery (referring to the Jews and other religious minorities). The Great God has delivered all the lands into my hand; the lands that I have made to dwell in a peaceful habitation... " http://www.livius.org/ct-cz/cyrus_I/babylon05.html#Cyrus
The founder of Iran was upright, a great leader of men, generous and benevolent. He's qualified by many as an enlightened liberator, not a heroic conqueror, because of his tolerance and respect for the customs and religions of every region of his great empire. Some might argue that Cyrus was the founder of "multiculturalism. "The Hellenes, whom he conquered regarded him as 'Law-giver' and the Jews as 'the anointed of the Lord'. He freed them from slavery, in Babylonia and helped them to re-build the Temple of David in Jerusalem.
He established a type of federal government for his vast Empire and appointed a governor (satrapi) to represent him in each province. However the administration, legislation, and cultural activities of each province was the responsibility of the Satraps. According to the Greek historian, Xenophon, Cyrus is also reputed to have devised the first postal system. (Achaemenide achievements).
It's believed that the Islamic regime's decision to destroy Cyrus' tomb is due to clerics' fear of what he did represent and the increase of nationalistic sentiments among Iranians. These fears have been boosted as more Iranians are turning from Islam and especially following the news on the future release of a British-US movie on the life of Cyrus the Great. The un-Iranian Islamic regime and its propaganda machine have already labeled the movie as a US-Zionist conspiracy intending to undermine Islam. The independent 80 million dollars budget movie is to be made outside Iran. http://www.chahayagroup.com/
The dogmatic Islamist clerics are considering as pagan anything related to Iran of before the Islamic invasion of 14 centuries ago and a direct threat to their backwarded and barbarian ideology. The Islamists have shown, at several occasions,, their animosity about ancient Iran and are considering it as something 'dirty' while ancient Iran was monotheist and was following Zoroaster guidances of "Good Thought, Good Deed, Good Speak". No slavery was existing in Iran of that time, while Arab conquerors were killing or taking as slave all those who were not accepting the Islamic religion. Many theologists believe that the Abrahamic religions are all inspired from Zoroastrianism.
It's to note that the Islamic republic regime is usurping Iran's chair at the UN and it's a member of UNESCO.
Wael, at least it is a positive, hopeful look at possibilities.
I'd give Bill Gates or T. Boone Pickens a ping, but I've misplaced their screen names.
Surely, a consortium of the world's universities, historical preservation societies, and philanthropists can arouse some deep-pocket interest in saving at least some part of these treasures. They could book it as an add on fund raiser.
Better some place like Sonora than the bottom of an artificial lake, methinks.

These creatures need to be eradicated from the planet. They are a malignancy.
So, the Persian influence on the Hellenistic tradition will now go the way of the library at Merv or Alexandria? This was an issue at those times of invasion........of Merv in particular by Genghis Khan.
PERSEPOLIS AND ANCIENT IRAN
PERSEPOLIS TERRACE: ARCHITECTURE, RELIEFS, AND FINDS
The magnificent palace complex at Persepolis was founded by Darius the Great around 518 B.C., although more than a century passed before it was finally completed. Conceived to be the seat of government for the Achaemenian kings and a center for receptions and ceremonial festivities, the wealth of the Persian empire was evident in all aspects of its construction. The splendor of Persepolis, however, was short-lived; the palaces were looted and burned by Alexander the Great in 331-330 B.C. The ruins were not excavated until the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago sponsored an archaeological expedition to Persepolis and its environs under the supervision of Professor Ernst Herzfeld from 1931 to 1934, and Erich F. Schmidt from 1934 to 1939.

This is unbelievable!!! It makes me ANGRY!!! Of course the Mullahs want to get rid of Persia's TRUE PAST, and it is a past that THEY CAN BE PROUD OF. Iran has been buried in a Dark Night ever since their Islamic revolution. GRRRRRR, this is so WRONG!!!!
"I'm not one of those who feel Islam is an evil religion, but avoidance of taxes and the opportunities conversion to Islam gave those who abandoned Zoroastrianism could well be why so many gave it up."

How Islam changed the rules of warfare making the entire civilian population of a defeated adversary, into a victim of tyranny...(snip)
The Muslim Arabs hounds who set their eyes on Persia (and the rest of the world) wanted not just to conquer land and impose new administrators and taxes, but they wanted to impose a creed on the Persians and make them as bloodthirsty in turn, to attack, other parts of the world. Those who fell victim to the swords of the Jihadis could only save their lives by becoming Muslims, and in turn bloodthirsty themselves. Islam was a curse on humankind from the word go. At the pain of death, Islam spread like wildfire into Persia, making the Persians also into bloodthirsty wolves like the Muslim Arabs. It was the Persians who a hundred years later were to take this bloodthirsty creed to the Turks and the Turks in turn a few hundred years after that were to attack Byzantine and the Balkans. Today the Persians (Iranians) have faint memories of their pre-Islamic past. The glories of Cyrus and Darius. The student community is becoming increasingly aware of their pre-Islamic past mainly through the website on the Internet, that tell the true story of Iran. And this adds fuel to the restlessness of the young among the Iranian population. Today, they must realize that the twilight of the Mullahs is the last twilight before the dawn of the post-Islamic Iran. Iranians, need to not only overthrow the Mullah regime, but also discard Islam and return to their pre-Islamic Zoroastrian roots. Here we shall trace the struggle waged by Iran (Persia) against the Arab Hordes who forcibly imposed Islam on the defeated Persians at the pain of death and torture....read more at link....

'i stopped reading after "hounds"'
I think the word used was 'wolves' but leaving aside one perhaps unnecessary adjective, what argument might you have with the history presented by this writer?
"I don't know how the average Persian can stand it."
Interesting statement.
The average Persian doesn't know the Shah. They're too young and pics and news about his family are forbidden.
Even most people old enough to remember, haven't seen pictures of Reza Pahlavi or his mother Farah since they were forced to leave Iran.
But they must feel that almost anyone would be better than who and what they have ruling the country now.
We can thank that lower than lowlife, first rate mental imbicle Jimmy Carter.
With all his faults, this guy was head and shoulders above the lunatics running Iran right now.
And the Iranian people were infintelt better off.
I hope Jimmy Carter rots in Hell someday.
Oh NO!!!
I violate those punctuation rules all the time.
Pinging some other violators....we must clean up our act for at least one day.
