Al-Jazeera, the Arab TV network that brings us exclusive footage of Osama bin Laden, is trying to pretty itself up for an anticipated 2006 U.S. debut.
The network, which is planning a global rollout for its English-language Al-Jazeera International, has hired Josh Rushing, former Marine Lt. and spokesman for Central Command during the Iraq war's early days.
While Rushing's exact role has yet to be announced, his appearance on the network is sure to lend it some credibility.
At the same time, A-JI is hoping to add TV icon Sir David Frost to its lineup.
The moves come as the network is talking to U.S. cable and satellite operators about deals to carry the station.

And that is why I come to FR. We have many sources here. Don't need AJ for anything.
We have some here that are short sighted or not thinking.
Why was Al Jazeera not blown up on September 12, 2001?
Now I know where you're coming from. If we don't agree with you we're "sheeple". Actually makes you sound like the MSM who claim that Rush tells people what to think, instead of people listening to him because they have found somebody that can better articulate what they already think.
Yes, I think you are probably correct that we will get a sanitized version. On the other hand, our current perceptions of Al Jazeera are formed by the highly edited and sanitized versions of their more outrageous coverage that our MSM deigns to show us.
Is Al Jazeera being added to your cable lineup, and is your bill going up as a result?
You misunderstand completely.
If you are not capable of analyzing various sources and coming up with an opinion by yourself, you might be a "sheeple".
If you don't know what to think until Rush or Ann or Sean tells you, you might be a "sheeple".
If you're afraid to listen to an opposing point of view because someone there might make sense and you might have to revise your preconceptions or understand where they're coming from rather than thinking they are just plain EVIL, you might be a "sheeple".
Get it?
I haardly ever listen to Rush, never to Sean anymore, so do not tell me who does my thinking.
What I get is that if we don't agree with you we are "sheeple". Unlike you I do not believe people listen to Rush because he tells them what to think, in fact I think people who listen to Rush are quite educated and informed. That is what people like you and the MSM say. You're the one who has decided that people who don't agree with you are either "sheeple" or "not capable of analyzing various sources".
We have plenty of various sources right here at FR to analyze. If I want to listen to anti-American propaganda I can just turn on CNN, MSNBC, NPR. I can read the New York Times, the Washington Post, etc.
GET IT.
I don't think I said anything to you, but obviously something I said hit a nerve with you.
Down South we have a saying, "The hit dog hollers."
You're welcome to choose to misunderstand what I said, and you're welcome to make your own judgements.
If I want to listen to anti-American propaganda I can just turn on CNN, MSNBC, NPR. I can read the New York Times, the Washington Post, etc.
Do you ever?
For what it's worth, several of my Arab friends have been getting it on satellite for years and so I've actually seen it many times in the original Arabic version. My Arabic is basic, but from what I saw it seems to be a non-stop orgy of America and Israel bashing, and very seldom indulges in critiques of its own society. If you want a taste, check out the English edition of their website, www.aljazeera.com.
If I were a betting man, I would lay 10 to 1 odds that Al J would offer ballanced news in english at first, putting us all to sleep. "Just another cable news channel." we would say.
Then gradually they would move the audience towards islamic hate speech. Never will they reveal their true agenda (in English), but they will prep their audience to hate Israel and influence anti Israel democrats.
Arab Americans will still get the true Al J in arabic, but never in english.
www.aljazeera.com is not the TV station (see the about page at http://www.aljazeera.com/about.asp ). The TV channel website is at http://english.aljazeera.net (where for some bizarre reason the lead culture story is Hunter S Thompson's sendoff).
We already know that the truth is not something that is important to al J, so why would what they say be reliable? Are they not more like Axis Annie and Tokyo Rose?
Ya know ..... does he look like a slightly overweight Sean Penn immitating a Marine to you?
Thanks for the clarification. The TV website is much more sanitized than the actual Arabic channel.
You arent the only one asking that question.....
Well we had that Chld Molester working for the UN Weapons teams what was his name? I mean other than pervert and traitor (the names that could be spoke in polite company).
Generally, no. But I do remember one in particular named Scott Ritter.
