Al-Jazeera, the Arab TV network that brings us exclusive footage of Osama bin Laden, is trying to pretty itself up for an anticipated 2006 U.S. debut.
The network, which is planning a global rollout for its English-language Al-Jazeera International, has hired Josh Rushing, former Marine Lt. and spokesman for Central Command during the Iraq war's early days.
While Rushing's exact role has yet to be announced, his appearance on the network is sure to lend it some credibility.
At the same time, A-JI is hoping to add TV icon Sir David Frost to its lineup.
The moves come as the network is talking to U.S. cable and satellite operators about deals to carry the station.

This is redundant, we already have CNN.
What a disgrace that a former Marine Lt. would work for the network of terrorists. What the heck is going on?
Maybe he believes he can present a more balanced point of view. I think we should wait and see. Marines don't generally turn against their own country.

I don't think anyone who would watch Al Jazeera bothers their empty heads with little things like credibility.
If you don't want to watch it, don't turn to that channel. Is it going to hurt you to see another point of view?
Even if you view them as "the enemy", it's good strategy to know what your enemy is thinking and saying.
Sometimes I think the average "conservative" has more in common with an ostrich than any other animal.
I said "usually" - not "never".
Your cable bill pays for all channels, not just the ones you watch. Most sane people do not want to subsidize Al Jazeera on their cable systems for the purpose of promoting the diversity of their point of view. Their point of view is hate, murder, misogny, beheadings and torture.
They plan to take over the US, of course. They tell us this every five minutes. Getting on TV is step one.
So now Satan gets his own cable TV channel in the U.S., to tell his legions how bad the Joooooooooooooz and Crusaders are.
Any U.S. serviceman who helps these devils is making a huge mistake.
Yeah, right now my basic bill has about 50 channels I don't watch, including ESPN2, MTV, VH1, etc., but there's no smaller package. Are cable bills going up when Al Jazeera is added?

Well, call me insane if you'd like, but I think many Americans have a very insular point of view and very little understanding of the viewpoints of those in different countries and cultures. I think adding channels such as BBC and AlJazeera could help some of us expand our horizons, so to speak.
We don't have to agree with the way other people think, but it doesn't hurt to try to understand it. Or, alternatively, we can refuse to associate with people who don't believe what we believe and we can refuse to watch channels that show points of view that make us uncomfortable. I.e., we can stick our heads in the sand.
Their point of view is hate, murder, misogny, beheadings and torture.
So you've been watching it already?
I thought building mosques was step one.
