What about a Rice-Allen Ticket in 2008?
You heard it here first!
Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has great name recognition, solid foreign policy credentials, and a brilliant mind. Former Virginia Governor and current Senator George Allen has a solid conservative foundation, a friendly outgoing personality, and plenty of leadership experience. Rice would strip a lot of black and women's votes from the Democrat ticket; Allen would pull in the conservatives. This is a ticket that could beat Hillary Clinton. This is a ticket that would keep the Democrats out of the White House for eight years with Rice as President, then another eight as Allen ran to replace her. The added benefit is that HRC would be out of serious politics permanently.
Early indications are that Republicans would support Rice.
I can't talk about her position on gays and abortion, but she is most definitely NOT "pro gun control". Her position on the INDIVIDUAL "right to keep and bear arms" could have come directly out of the NRA playbook.
That may be a real possibility, especially since she would seem almost like a natural replacement for Cheney as VP (due to the fact that they are both known more for their foreign policy expertise).
Yeah, I think so too.
How about Allen - Steele ?
I've already declared my support for George Allen, but he needs a bulldog for VP. Rice is too nice!! How about Newt?
Rice could win easily...question is, will she run?
A great combination. But too close geographically.
1) Newt's a has been.
2) Newt doesn't have the grace to be Number 2.
I'll settle for ANYBODY but Giuliani. I can't believe so many Freepers seem to love that Rockefeller Republican.
Yeah, well, Clarence Thomas and Colin Powell don't seem to have pulled many votes away from the Rats.
I have a world of admiration for Condi, but I just don't think a background in academia and appointive positions qualify her to seek the Presidency as her first political office.
Condi would lose badly. She is an academic and an appointed bureaucrat, and she has never run for any kind of political office before. Additionally, she has no real network of political supporters to staff a campaign or a real power base from which to run, unlike most governors or other elected officials, who can draw upon their respective states' apparatii for steam. Like it or not, you have to have some kind of political machine behind you as well as down and dirty political experience to win a national campaign. She has none of this, and therefore, I think she would get handled very roughly.
A foolish statement to make in most cases, given the amount of speculation that goes on with these things.
I bought {and started using} my Dr. Rice in 2008 bumperstickers over a year ago. The woman is smart, strong and has bigger brass ones than any of the other pubbie girly men tha have been bandied about.
I doubt if she will run, but if she does, she will get 400 electorial college votes.
How about Micheal Steele as VP for Allen ?
Steele would have been serving as a senator for less than two years in 2008 (hopefully) but he still has long career ahead of him
Newts great, but if you are talking voter strategy, he is too much like Allen - that is why Condi would be excellent for getting in a totally different (female-minority) and non-politician crowd.
A twofer and a sports god.
The Witch Queen (accompanied by a recycled Igor from the last campaign) would crush them.
