Subject: Re: Fw: Nightline Tonight Mon., March 14, 2005

That was my son's unit. He was killed on that day 04/04/04. Here is a letter that I wrote to NightLine about the broadcast:
  Love

  Cindy Sheehan

  March 15, 2005

  To Whom it May Concern:

Imagine my distress when I turned Night Line on last night and I was confronted with the gory details of my son's murder in Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq on 04/04/04. Imagine, also, my sorrow and rage at the side of the story that you presented to the American public.

[SNIP]

I was on the Night Line Townhall Meeting in Washington, DC on 01/27/05. After I spoke (which I think was a fluke), Ted Koppel dismissed me as being "emotional." First of all, how can I approach this discussion without emotions, MY SON WAS KILLED, AND KILLED FOR LIES? Second of all, that show was not fair and balanced and I think the conclusion "Should we stay" was foregone.

The show last night was also not fair and balanced. To see all the wives being interviewed who had not lost their husbands and to hear what "hard work" it is to be left behind when their husbands are at war. How hard to you think it is to have a child killed in an illegal and immoral war? In this "wonderful" group of families left behind, we had exactly ONE of the wives call us..she is Diane Rose who was my son's Colonel, Frank Rose's wife. The last time we heard from Diane was in October and we feel we have been left behind by anyone connected to the 2-5 Cavalry. Is support only given if your loved one stays alive? One wife was quoted as saying that Sundays were the hardest for the families left behind. My son was killed on Palm Sunday last year..how does anybody think Sundays are for my family?

Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full-well that my son, my family, this nation, and this world were betrayed by a George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agenda after 9/11. We were told that we were attacked on 9/11 because the terrorists hate our freedoms and democracy...not for the real reason, becuase the Arab-Muslims who attacked us hate our middle-eastern foreign policy. That hasn't changed since America invaded and occupied Iraq...in fact it has gotten worse.

It would be so amazing if your show would put me, or another parent who lost their child on who disagrees with the war and this administration: to have just an entire show..without presenting the false side of the debate. That would take a lot of courage and integrity. I hope your program will exhibit these qualities.

I also think that Mr. Koppel owes me an apology for the rude way I was treated on his show. After I expressed myself about the war being based on lies and that the troops should be brought home immediately because the war was based on lies, I was not thanked for my comments, or my son's sacrifice. He just said to keep the discussion away from emotions. Then, the wife of a soldier who was killed was allowed to speak and she praised the policies of this deplorable and despicable administration, and she was thanked and praised by the panel.

Actually, I'm betting he's a Catholic paleo-conservative, ala Buchanan. Not an Anti-Semite but prejudiced against Israel, and suspicious of the influence Zionists wield. Which is understandable. I disagree, and I think its an unfair position. Buts its no illegitimate and it doesn't make him an anti-semite (though many people of that position are often anti-semites, the one does not guarantee the other).

I've largely skipped this thread, but those are worthwhile thoughts. For the sake of her own healing, I hope her notoriety doesn't last too long, at the risk of distorting the memory of her son.

This really is nothing new for the lefties. It's what they did during the Nam War.

But now, there's talk radio, cable, the net and more Conservative newspapers. The old lefty tactics just won't work as they once did.

The right to fresh water is inalienable
Iraq Water Project making an impact

by Hadi Jawad

As the war machinery of the U.S. and U.K. came back to life once again and rained death and destruction on the civilian population of Afghanistan, statements emanated from the White House claiming, "we do not have a problem with the Afghan people but the leadership," echoing the administration of the elder Bush, who a decade ago had expressed similar sentiments saying, "our quarrel was not with the Iraqi people but with the leadership."

Yet efforts to eradicate well-entrenched leadership there yield collateral damage of colossal proportions: ruined economies, massive unemployment, extremes of poverty, destroyed infrastructure, crippled health care systems; terminally ill, the extreme elderly, children under five, the most vulnerable segments of any society, killed by the thousands—all this in the name of protecting freedom and democracy.

The task in front of those of us in the peace and justice movement is daunting. We must join hands together in support and encouragement to undo some of the destruction that U.S. policy delivers to those who dare to challenge its national interest. One example of coming together happened in Dallas last spring with the founding of the Committee in Solidarity with the People of Iraq (CISPI) by Dr. Frank Mabee, renowned peace activist Johnny Wolf and this author. CISPI’s charter says that it seeks to educate people about the rights of the Iraqi people under the UN Declaration of Human Rights, including the right to clean drinking water, medical care and education, not to mention the right not to be bombed incessantly for the past 11 years.

Are you suggesting that the Islamists are not trying to wear us down in a guerilla conflict?
Are you suggesting that spreading anti-war propoganda helps this effort?

Has he been? That's good! :-)

Now, if only some of the old timer sleepers would get the boot too, FR would stop looking like DU. I'm really sickened to see so much lefty propaganda post to FR, as though it were "facts".

That anyone would believe this sort of neo-con conspiracy theory nonsense is a tribute to the rank stupidity of the Bush/America and Israel haters ... in our own country.

Until individuals like this come to the realization; "education by murder" a the hands of the enemy as Daniel Pipes has put it, that we are at war against a murderous, totalitarian ideology that does not differentiate—all are dhimmis, this global war will continue.

Don't you think Cindy Sheehan is anti-Semitic? Iconclast said he agrees with her emphatically.

Sheehan says we are not in Iraq for our interests but because of Israel. She says we were attacked on 9/11 because of our Middle East policy and that if Israel were out of Palestine, there would be no terrorism.

Do you agree with that? How is that not anti-Semitic? How is it different from what OBL and the other Islamic extremists say?

Daniel Pipes really knows his stuff and guess what...the lefties HATE him. But I've read most of his books and articles, over the years, and he's absolutely brilliant!

Well, I disparage y'all's pissing all day on this woman's grief, regardless of her politics.

Cry me a river. This isn't about grief, it is about lies and the ultra-left - lies and an agenda you are peddling yourself and associating yourself with, obviously, by your conduct on this thread.

Go to DU - you would be more at home there.

Pure semantic b.s., worthy of the Sink Emperor himself.

She said "Israel" not "Jews."

Some seem to have a complex about seeing antisemitism everywhere.

The ex-husband and his current wife support the war and are actively involved in comforting others who have lost loved ones.

Is the ex husband the father of Casey? If so they must have gotten a divorce within the last year or less.

Nope, she was part of the lib left long before the war. She is angry at President Bush for winning in 2000 and 2004. She has been against President Bush, the VP, and anyone else who is a Republican. She needs to talk to someone after losing a child. I know that FR really helped me after our daughter died last year.

I was talking about the Cindy Sheehan substitute on O'Reilly tonight. Her name is Dolores Kesterson. Mr. Kesterson is supportive of the war.

By the way, Cindy Sheehan is apparently separated from her husband; this has happened in the last year or so.

Cindy Sheehan actually might be anti-semitic. Being virulently and unfairly anti-Israel is not NECESSARILy anti-Semitic. She might be, though, from the vitriol of her rants. And the neoconservative perjorative doublespeak. But we haven't seen much evidence beyond a crazy, fickle and stupid woman ranting about Israel out of Palestine. I know Jews who want Israel out of Palestine (family members in fact). While I think they are shortsighted, stupid and just trying to go along with a lefty crowd, they are not necessarily anti-Semitic either.

Iconoclast is not necessarily anti-semitic either. I strongly disagree with his position on Israel, but I refrain judgement. Also, tossing that label around so freely when it's not necessarily deserved, or before its proven, weakens its power. There IS anti-semitism out there. Calling so many people anti-Semitic, especially when many of them aren't, is not a smart strategm.

Personally, for the most part I support the settlers. I don't think Israel has anything more to do with terrorism than showing more Arab weakness and thus becoming a rallying cry. They also see its modernity as a threat. But, I respect with other people's intellectual disagreements with me on this, and most other issues.

I think Noam Chomsky is a spiteful, meanspirited, vindictive, shortsighted and egotistical little dick. I disagree with him on almost everything. I don't think he's an anti-Semite even though he REALLY really hates Israel.

Anti-semitism is a hatred, resentment or dislike of Jews as a people, culture of whatnot because they are Jews. I dislike particular Jews, though I am a Jew myself. But David Duke? David Duke IS an anti-semite. Hitler was an anti-semite. Canada's prime minister during WWII was an anti-semite. I can go on. Don't misuse the word, though. It's not just any old slur.

It's like calling people racists. We, as conservatives and men (and women) of integrity, must be careful to be accurate in our language. Call racists racist. Call anti-semites anti-semites. Don't call anyone who disagrees with a position of diversity and multicultural crap a racist, or anyone who says black street gangs or illegal Mexican immigration or fundamentalist Muslim terrorism are problems racists. Likewise, not everyone who wants Israel out of Palestine are anti-semites, though quite a few are. In the same way, not even everyone who disagrees with the legitimacy of Israel are anti-semites (though I believe most of those probably are).

Just be careful is what I am saying. Be careful in who you are calling what.

We disagree with Iconoclast, well, let's argue with him. Let's not call him names. Let's show him why Israel's existence is necessary, and why pulling out of 'Palestine' probably won't bring peace.
