August 9, 2005 -- WASHINGTON Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would be right up there in the 2008 Republican presidential race with former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain if she were to run, a poll shows.
Giuliani is the top pick of Republican and Republican-leaning voters at 27 percent, followed by McCain (Ariz.) at 24 percent and Rice at 19 percent, according to the CNN-Gallup poll conducted Friday through Sunday.
All other Republican prospects are in single digits in the poll. Gov. Pataki is favored by just 3 percent and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (Tenn.) by 9 percent.

I hope it's Condi running against Hill. There's not much Hill can do to trump the race issue. She can go to church and say she supports the troops to get elected but anything she says against Condi could be interpreted as racial.
Condi should run.
We need a true conservative who will freeze then roll back government. We must have Mike Pence in 2008!
It would be a sure win!
> Ummmm what part of "I'm Not Running" does the
> CNN/Gallop not understand?
They know it's a lie when Dems say it, and that's their
primary reference point. They don't grok people who
actually mean what they say.
Push comes to shove though, if it looks like the GOP
nom might fall to a villain like McCain (or anyone
sure to lose to Hillary), Condi might suck it up and
run anyway.
Condi will be the ideal candidate for GOP. She is so smart, and she is conservative. McCain plays politics all for himself.
McCain is dead with the base, and Rudy's position on abortion is far to the left of where Condi stands. Condi's position on RKBA is about where Gun Owner's of America are, and indeed, is to the right of NRA National. Potentially, Rice is in the strongest position going forward due to Rudy's weaknesses on abortion and RKBA.
In addition, Bush would probably prefer Condi to Rudy. Rudy backed McCain in the 2000 primaries. Bush doesn't forget those things.
Single issue one-trick ponies like Tancredo are down in the dumpers, where they should be. Where the heck is Allen, btw? Continuing to underwhelm?

I'm crossing my fingers. I think if Hillary runs and appears likely to get the nomination, Condi MUST run to neutralize the gender issue.
Look for Cheney to retire in '06, opening the door for Condi to become VP. From that perch, she is better positioned for a Presidential run.
Put it this way; if the GOP ticket consists of 2 milquetoast whalepants weareres, you can say hello to the next president Clinton.
For one thing, Condi is one of the most trusted by President Bush. For another, I don't think other GOP candidates will be able to take Hillary down easily.
Condi would be a strong candidate. But I don't think she wants to put herself in that position. I think she has something better in mind - like maybe teaching.
I don't think Condi's apparent life-long lack of a personal life will pass the smell test with the 'morality' crowd who came out in force for Bush. While having the first black confirmed bachelorette on the ticket would be a great coup for the GOP, and a heck of a mind game on the Rats, I think it could rapidly turn into a noble train wreck.
And for those who will claim that I'm being crude or unfair, they should look ahead and see what the MSM will be legitamately trying to dig up as they try to paint a portrait of the candidates as human beings.
I think this would be a loss, to our party and our nation, especially since I believe that she is celibate and not gay, and as such a powerful example for young people.

Maybe so, but Rove seems to prefer Guiliani over McCain. And Condi is not even in the picture at this point. I think Bush and Rove know that she won't run and this is just stupid speculation on the MSM's part.
I don't think Cheney will retire. He just got a pretty clean bill of health from the doctor. I think he will stay on. Condi is doing very well in her postion right now and I don't think she would want the VP postion.
