A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, Dutchess, Aquamarine, DollyCali ~

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

I was looking forward to your pretty calendar. :(

Sorry, Sistah. I started to work on it and realized that, not only was I running out of time, but there are NO national holidays in August. LOL. So, this was as far as I got.......

Oh well, at least the birthday wishes are there for all of our Finest August babies......*you know who you are*. :-)

Only Fourteen Years

I’m looking at my Calendar, and ET’s looking back,
Way back in 1983 that fella had a knack.
He didn’t need a band-aid, or other medicine,
Just held a glowing finger up, and up zipped up the skin.

Fingers are salutes for us, this year just as back then,
And purple is the in thing now, to dip your finger in.
But back to this strange alien, and why he’s here with me,
And why I’m looking at some dates from Nineteen Eighty-Three.

That year began on Saturday, just like the current one,
And it was not a leap year, so when all is said and done,
The calendar I have in hand will serve me well this year,
For every date will line right up, as each month does appear.

For there are only seven ways to start the New Year’s play,
And only on the leap years do you need that extra day,
So fourteen calendars are quite enough, no matter how you age,
Just shove the old one in a drawer, and don’t mark up the page.

I know the Nation’s printers will be annoyed I’ve made it known,
That you don’t need to purchase what you already own,
But think of all the Playmates who can give that happy smile,
Now that they realize they won’t grow old for quite a while.

The Pledge graphic of that lovely house with the dogwoods flanking it "R Belong to NAN!!"

It shore do! :-)

BTW, Jk insists that I came home with a West Virginy accent, but that is not possible. Nan says there is no such thing! LOL! (West Virginians are some of the nicest, warmest people I have met anywhere in this country, and they have a GREAT sense of humor when it comes to laughing at themselves and the "stereotypical" West Virginian!)

Awesome! I've been there! LOL Absolutely beautiful!

That is a photo that Nan sent me a few months ago when we did a thread on our gardens (I think), I thought it would make a nice pledge graphic, even though her flag is hidden behind the trees, the neighbor's flag shows. :-)

Mornin', niecebear.

I had thought about using that for the intro to my portion of the "Trip".

Oh no. :-( I wouldn't have used it for this thread had I known that. But, it really doesn't matter.....you can still use it if you want.

I also thought about a map with P.P. marked with a star. What ya think?

Well, that is a great idea too! Do you want me to make up a graphic like that for the beginning of your part of the thread? It will be very easy to do.

Thank's for posting the weekend thread today Lori...and Billie, thanks for creating such a great thread for us to "hangout" during the weekends!

Yes, and, once again, I forgot to include her name when I posted the thread. *sigh*. I was just in too much of hurry to get it posted. :-(

Thanks for sending me your contribution to our "trip report", D. Now, you don't worry about a thing....just have fun during your time away. :-)

but there are NO national holidays in August.

There are always holidays to celebrate. :-) They may not be national holidays, but if you don't want an empty calendar...

Yep, I can see now that there are lots of "holidays" to celebrate in August. How could we miss national "clown" week? LOL!

Thanks, tulip, for posting the link to that site. It pretty much covers everything. :-)
