My prayers and thoughts to their loved ones and comrades, reading that headline feels like a punch in the gut.

Someone ought to show a picture of an amphibious vehicle then perhaps the someone would ask the right questions. Like why are they using such a piece of crap to fight an insurgency with?

The tragic thing is that we are losing more Americans in our 5 largest cities every month than in all of Iraq.

I find our policy just crazy. Our finest and best should not be dying for a police action. Marines are trained to wage war, not be cops.

There is no excuse for the Iraqi Army not to be doing this police action. If it is our fault we did not train them, then we screwed up but that should not stop us from pulling out entriely.

If it is the Iraqis fault in that they do not want to fight for their own freedom, then we should pull out at Warp Factor 9 speed.

This is way beyong sickening and unnecessary.

I wanted to ask what type vehicle they were in? Why don't the Marines at least have Bradleys?

And a gentle smile crosses the lips of the American left this morning ...

I find your post decidedly on the sick side.

There are many on the right who have opposed this debacle from day one of its promotion, and I am one of them.

There has never been anything about it to smile about.

It's pure tragedy.

"Hackett, who lost the Congressional race yesterday wanted GIs and Iraqi working together - the idea sound great until you see these stories and wonder what are the facts."

There are bound to be exceptions that will put our troops at risk. However, the only realistic means of turning over responsibility to the Iraqis is that they work with and are trained by Americans.

"Inside jobs" are a possibility. In Vietnam, there was the "Chieu Hoi" program which encouraged the VC to come over to our side. Most of these became Kit Carson Scouts with American infantry units. I knew several Kit Carsons that were outstanding. There were others who were not deemed trustworthy. Looking back the language barrier probably added to this perception. They were sent back to the rear for what was assumed to be further training.

Guerrilla wars have built-in dangers, but I have faith that our side - including the Iraqis - will overcome them.

This area is on a RIVER.

Haditha, a town on the Euphrates river

They were forging the river in (that piece of crap as you called it.)

Seems Saddam better stayed there. One dictator is better than many terrorists.

(Sigh.)

Must...resist....temptation....to go after this. Must....not use words...like "idiot..."

They were waging war...Haditha is the next Fallujah....someone in the terrorist camp just announced by the Marine killings yesterday and todays dead....that there is something of value in that stinking town.

The Marines will now dismantle the hell hole now to see what that something is...

A huge can of whoop ass is about to get opened on Haditha.

The left is what is sick. Some of them are dancing this morning because this tragedy will fall on George Bush. Nevermind the families greiving.

The end justifes the means in their minds.

That link that Meg33 provided shows the destroyed vehicle on a ramp. Was it preparing to ford or just completing a crossing?
