That is the -600, very long range jet. Thai flys them JFK to Bangkok non stop.
The crashed one is -300, shorter range, more pax.
The "scarebus", since all survived we can have some fun.
Here is an interesting fact.
Airbus has not been around as long. Most of the fleets of aircraft are not that old and second hand users of aircraft are less. Most of the users are European, North American, or Asian nations with a purse that can afford good maintenance, new airframes and maintain high regulatory standards set by their governments (FAA in the US for example). Furthermore, look at some of those airstrips in these third world nations where more Boeings are being used.
YET: When it comes to flight safety and sheer statistics, place two through six are all Boeing products. Even place one is no Airbus, but rather a Saab. Of course, the 777 is not included, and it has had ZERO crashes to date.

777 or A340? Id rather fly with a 777, but some would say thats just patriotism speaking.
Is this a mere coincidence, or some random statistical anomaly? Were dealing with millions of flight hours, thousands of aircraft, and hundreds of thousands of take offs and landings. Maybe the person compiling the data was biased? :)
In the meantime, Airbus has retrofitted its fleet of aircraft so that pilot over control is less likely. So that the tails of aircraft dont pop off. Would you want to be the on the first flight of the A380 with passengers? Look at how they are rushing it. In their hopes of maintaining market share and not loosing ground to Boeing, they are blasting into existence a A350 as well.
