Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.
I barely remember those days. Back then, trolls were outed with something like the following...

Air France jet crashes at Pearson, at least 14 injured
Last updated Aug 2 2005 06:04 PM EDTCBC News
Hospitals in the Toronto area have started receiving passengers injured when an Air France jet with between 250 and 350 people aboard skidded off a runway while landing at Pearson International Airport Tuesday.
CBC News reports that no fatalities have been reported. Officials from the airport confirm about "14 minor injuries."

LOL!
Don't the Doppler radars built at airports around the US cut down the number of planes caught in wind shear? It seams that within a few years after the L-1011 crash at DFW, every airport in the US where passenger jets operate got a Doppler radar.
Great update. Thanks.
This dude's South African...
The "scarebus", since all survived we can have some fun.
Here is an interesting fact.
Airbus has not been around as long. Most of the fleets of aircraft are not that old and second hand users of aircraft are less. Most of the users are European, North American, or Asian nations with a purse that can afford good maintenance, new airframes and maintain high regulatory standards set by their governments (FAA in the US for example). Furthermore, look at some of those airstrips in these third world nations where more Boeings are being used.
YET: When it comes to flight safety and sheer statistics, place two through six are all Boeing products. Even place one is no Airbus, but rather a Saab. Of course, the 777 is not included, and it has had ZERO crashes to date.

777 or A340? Id rather fly with a 777, but some would say thats just patriotism speaking.
Is this a mere coincidence, or some random statistical anomaly? Were dealing with millions of flight hours, thousands of aircraft, and hundreds of thousands of take offs and landings. Maybe the person compiling the data was biased? :)
In the meantime, Airbus has retrofitted its fleet of aircraft so that pilot over control is less likely. So that the tails of aircraft dont pop off. Would you want to be the on the first flight of the A380 with passengers? Look at how they are rushing it. In their hopes of maintaining market share and not loosing ground to Boeing, they are blasting into existence a A350 as well. If you want to see a quick demonstration of the first Airbus 320 loaded with VIPs in flight, go to:

At mid-afternoon Tuesday, a spokesperson with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority said lightning was causing technical problems with the airport's lightning-detection system.
LOL! Looked exactly like that. :-)
So you all stareted right before 9/11???
*reaching for tin foil*...
14 minor injuries is absurdly low. I've seen low-speed bus accidents with more injuries.
lmao... that's a good system there.. lmao
Reporterette on Global has no idea that she's live..
a miracle, thank God .. sure didn't look good for passengers and crew from photos. WOnderful news.
and the camerman doesn't either...he's focused down her ear..
It's amusing to note the fistfights going on between various Freepers as I scroll through the posts on this thread. Kind of reminds me of a Simpsons episode.
Guess so?
Yes indeed folks, we have lightning.
Oh my goodness! Well, there were several fireballs, even after the fire trucks had been there for a long time. And the witness could feel the heat even from the highway.
Doubt the media really has as much of an idea as to possible fatalities as it's letting on at this point.
I hope and pray that you're wrong, but when the witness said that the plane exploded "within seconds" it just seemed impossible that 300 people could get out so quickly. We shall see.
I'll check in later, after baseball.
