Has anyone seen any polls?
I think the voters were lazy and the Democrat machine played Republican with their candidate and threw millions at this race.
Yep. I certainly blew it.
ditto here.....Freep me if you get them pleeze...
Wrong. The majority of people here who stated a preference were for Tom Brinkman, a State Representative who voted *against* the same tax increases Schmidt voted for. I was also a Brinkman supporter, and during some stretches I easily spent 60 hours/week helping him (in addition to my FT job). Myself and others warned Freepers about Schmidt's horrific record on taxes. Unfortunately some RINO's here like DrDeb, Klute, Steve_Stiffler, and MikeinIraq voted for her anyways.
That said, most people were still happy to see Mike DeWine's son finish a humiliating 4th place with only 12% of the vote. While I was also happy to see the DeWine family get the smackdown, I was equally upset to see Republicans in the supposedly most conservative district in Ohio nominating a Hillary Clinton tax-hiker. My opinion on Jean Schmidt is exactly the same tonight as it was on the night of the Primary Election.
No matter who wins tonight, that person needs to be defeated in 2006. We need to get a real conservative in Congress.
Not just that - also playing clips from Bush and therefore creating a connection to him.
Well remember, FR doesn't have all those graphics like DU does. It confuses 'em!
Well, you'd think they would get the idea when they stepped up to the booth and the guy has a big D next to his name.
Local news is reporting that Clermont cty's count is being held up due to "humidity".
You really need to read Michael Barron's analysis of the '04 election before stating Bush should have won by a wider margin.
I know people like to comfort themselves with the idea this is '84 or '88, but it isn't. The Generation that voted for Reagan? Half of them are now dead. Replaced by whom? '60's radicals and their children.
Well only the wacky Tom Brinkman crowd would label her a RINO. Brinkman would have gotten pasted.
Actually internals show Allen ahead...be seeing you
You're right, Chris...but it's more due to the fact that northern VA is becoming more like DC and MD than anything else..
Bottom line, an honest to goodness pro gun, Marine veteran of the Iraq War could not beat this woman.
Chris, we've been over this: for Rice to have any hope in 2008, she needs to, within the next 8 months, start to develop a national organization and begin fundraising. She's missed her window for "governing" anything (i.e., running as a governor or even being appointed to anything that she could administer). I think it will be very tough unless she comes down HARD on illegals, which would be a massive Dem-sucker for her.
Does that mean it is another democrat "trick" of holding back the last county to seek how many make up votes need to be generated?
I think you are seeing to much into that.
This was a special election, normal trends are thrown out the window and as you said turnout was low, and plus he didn't run as a "pelosi democrat" and didn't even mention his party affilliation in his ads.
Plus there was no incumbant running. So it was a wide open race.
I hardly think Schmitt is a Hillary clone
I think every time two stick together, they would have to run the whole batch through over and over again.
