Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman Dr. James C. Dobson issued the following statement today after learning that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., had come out strongly in favor of increased federal funding for destructive embryonic stem-cell research:
"It is an understatement to say that the pro-life community is disappointed by Sen. Frist's decision to join efforts to void President Bush's policy limiting the funding of embryonic stem- cell research. Most distressing is that, in making his announcement, Sen. Frist calls himself a defender of the sanctity of human life - even though the research he now advocates results, without exception, in the destruction of human life.
Story Continues Below
"Sen. Frist argues that under the Bush policy, there are insufficient stem-cell lines to maximize what he calls the 'promise' of embryonic stem-cell research. That statement continues the common misconception that embryonic stem cells hold the greatest potential for human healing and therapy. In reality, recently published studies demonstrate that some adult stem cells can form most, if not all, body tissues, just like embryonic cells may be able to do. Furthermore, there will never be a sufficient number of new stem-cell lines to satisfy the sometimes unquenchable thirst for federal money to fund pet projects of researchers. A morally sound line must be drawn at the beginning of this journey into stem-cell research: that no human life is sacrificed for possible or proven scientific gain - period. "The media have already begun speculating that Sen. Frist's announcement today is designed to improve his chances of winning the White House in 2008 should he choose to run. If that is the case, he has gravely miscalculated. To push for the expansion of this suspect and unethical science will be rightly seen by America's values voters as the worst kind of betrayal - choosing politics over principle.
"We urge Sen. Frist to reconsider his position in light of the values he has espoused during his career in public service."
how many rights have you lost to fanatical right wingers so far Satan?
you left out "bigot". "racist" and "anti-semite" in your diatribe.
you can do better.
There are important issues to speak out about. A real leader would do so.
"why devote money to ESCR"?...
Because the democratic talking points say so--that's why.
Dr. Dobson frequently speaks out, and gets lambasted for many comments he makes, as the lamestream media distorts and picks and chooses what IT will print for public consumption....but it seems you choose to ignore Dr. Dobson's outspoken leadership on many levels.
Oh those pesky Christians getting you all mad because they want their representatives to do what they want and not what you want. If you don't like them foisting their morality on you, then convince the majority of Republicans you are correct and not they.
Tell me what is the difference is? Only atheists should decide what government does and does not spend money on? Only atheists can sit in congress or the judiciary? There is NO constitutional justification for denying these people a say in the process even if it INCLUDES laws that enforce their morality. Live with it.
You agreed with the poster that the taxpayer doesn't get to decide where taxes get spent. Not directly, but we do get choose who decides. Bottomline is Frist betrayed some of us.
Important is a subjective term, btw; but, I believe murdering human beings, i.e., abortion, fetus use for stem cells, is quite an important issue. Terrorism is but one of many; you would have Dr. Dobson to speak on only those issues YOU deem important to qualify him as an important leader. I'm glad Dr. Dobson doesn't have tunnel vision.
Nothing is stopping private stem cell research... and you know as well as I do, that if it was as promising with result that all the major research companies would be doing it.... but they are not... why... because it does NOT hold the golden bucket of research results they want... right now it is only a political tool for leftist to continue abortion propaganda.
You are made of the very same "microscopic cells". Liberal word games to change the meaning/honor/preciousness of life as we know it is all I can see.
Agreed. Frist was essentially unelectible as Republican nominee for Pres. May help make an easier road for Gingrich.
Actually you don't see anything, you're a blind ideologue who is constitutionally challenged and thus reverts to moronic assertions like this. Moron is being kind by the way because even most morons know that there are laws against murder.
Yeah, it's such an "anathema" to me that I am hurredly writing this reply before I leave with my family to go to church this morning.
"Anathema" isn't an an and while you're in church perhaps you should reflect on this:
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (Jer.1:5).
Then go home and read the constitution for the first time.
And it isn't my problem that you are thinking so emotionally that you react the way all liberals do -yes, it is you who is acting like a liberal guided strictly by your emotions. My reply applies to all government spending, regardless of the issue. Is it okay for the libs to not pay their taxes because of a perceived (and made up) sacred duty to "stop the killing in Iraq" etc or whatever they dont like.
Your reply is worthless, you won't address the argument I offered because you are constitutionally as well as Biblically inept. Such is life.
I will fight the good fight against government funded stem-cell research, but should my side lose, I will still pay all of my taxes just as I do now, even though I don't like many things the government spends money on, especially taxpayer funded abortion.
Do you not understand English or what? The government has been given certain powers by the people, those powers are limited and can not infringe on the free exercise of religion. It is the reason the courts have ruled in favor of conscientous objectors. Now you're only argument thus far is that you are smart and I'm a liberal. That's it. You offer feelings to counter my constitutional arguments. I'm not interested in your feelings. Sorry.
Do you pay taxes? If so, some of your money is being used for taxpayer funded abortions for pregnant teens, welfare moms, and illegal alien moms. That's right, if you pay taxes, you are helping to fund abortions! I don't like it either, but I'm not stupid enough to think that I don't have to pay all of my taxes. As I said in an earlier post, if you are so sure that it is your sacred duty to not pay taxes that help fund what you consider immoral government spending, I invite you to give it a try and see if the nice folks at the I.R.S. agree with you! It would be interesting to see how sympathetic the I.R.S. would be to your "grave sin" argument.
You are hopeless.
What Senator Frist actually said:

FRIST COMMENTS ON STEM CELL RESEARCH - Floor Statement -- Remarks As Prepared For Delivery
I can see plenty of reasons why people who favor abortion and cloning would see ESCR as being a useful justification for those things. Given that ASCR has shown much more promise than ESCR, I see no other reason why any knowledgeable person would support ESCR. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Even if ESCR is successful, I see no way for any tangible benefits to be realized without creating (possibly via cloning) embryos for the purpose of slaughter. Even if there is an adequate supply of "expendable" embryos for research purposes, the supply would not be adequate for any treatments that went into production, especially when issues such as genetic matching are taken into account.
He went against the President, and he blindsided him to boot. Stupid political move!
Hyenas LTAO as well and like you it is impossible for them to make or reply to an argument. I repeat, it is you Mr Pantload who wants the government to take my money to support your beliefs, not the other way around. The problem for fascists like you is that the Constitution prohibits government from infringing on the free exercise of religion.
But then again that is no problem for you at all. Radical Secular Hyenists could care less about the Constitution
