Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman Dr. James C. Dobson issued the following statement today after learning that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., had come out strongly in favor of increased federal funding for destructive embryonic stem-cell research:
"It is an understatement to say that the pro-life community is disappointed by Sen. Frist's decision to join efforts to void President Bush's policy limiting the funding of embryonic stem- cell research. Most distressing is that, in making his announcement, Sen. Frist calls himself a defender of the sanctity of human life - even though the research he now advocates results, without exception, in the destruction of human life.
Story Continues Below
"Sen. Frist argues that under the Bush policy, there are insufficient stem-cell lines to maximize what he calls the 'promise' of embryonic stem-cell research. That statement continues the common misconception that embryonic stem cells hold the greatest potential for human healing and therapy. In reality, recently published studies demonstrate that some adult stem cells can form most, if not all, body tissues, just like embryonic cells may be able to do. Furthermore, there will never be a sufficient number of new stem-cell lines to satisfy the sometimes unquenchable thirst for federal money to fund pet projects of researchers. A morally sound line must be drawn at the beginning of this journey into stem-cell research: that no human life is sacrificed for possible or proven scientific gain - period. "The media have already begun speculating that Sen. Frist's announcement today is designed to improve his chances of winning the White House in 2008 should he choose to run. If that is the case, he has gravely miscalculated. To push for the expansion of this suspect and unethical science will be rightly seen by America's values voters as the worst kind of betrayal - choosing politics over principle.
"We urge Sen. Frist to reconsider his position in light of the values he has espoused during his career in public service."
Frist dissapoints me...as usual.
I hate to confess but I HAVE to go to his family day picnic at their farm on the 21st I think.......it would be considered bad form for me to challenge him to a duel...lol
Not many Pubbies have much spine.....sadly.
"it would be considered bad form for me to challenge him to a duel"
Not a verbal duel or one on the Ethics Of Consistency. Unfortunately, you'd be dueling with an unarmed man on that second one...
I will tell him Satan says hi!
Satan to jwalsh07: "There's a distinction between wanting the research and wanting to gov't to fund it but I'm sure that distinction is lost on you, the Lord of Overreaction.
jwalsh07 to Satan: Did your evil twin post this?
To: Hoof Hearted
"And the libs don't want their tax money to support the war or the military etc. So what? Get over it. Taxpayers never have had the option to select and pay only for government programs they agree with."
Well said.

"It's because of your acute memory problem."
What memory problem? Simply agreeing with the fact that "Taxpayers never have had the option to select and pay only for government programs they agree with." is NOT an endorsement of using taxpayer funds to support stem cell research. I'm not a fan of my tax dollars going to support an Islamic theocracy in the form of the new Iraqi Constitution which will be based on Shari'a (or however the hell it's spelled) - are you?
Once again, and as previously said, this distinction (and all others apparently) are lost on you.
Your childish "Satan" crap is amusing, since you're only referencing both the name of a video game character and the name of a bad punk rock album (not the Lord of Darkness) PLUS the fact that 'Beelzebubba' is NOT 'Satan', but the Lord of the Flies and one of his minions...but once again, the distinction is lost on you.
But since you already have shown to still possess a belief and fear in horned-head, hoven evil boogeyman deities used to scare children, I'm guessing most distinctions are lost on you.
BOO! SATAN!!!!
you slighted The Dead Milkmen...shame.
At first I thought this too.
But Rush made a good point on his show today.
Frist really hasn't changed his position at all..
"Read my posts #76 and #95 carefully and tell me that people aren't
being duped about Embryonic stem cell research.
My point is it is futile unless you cross the line."
See, now that type of reasoned response, supported by links pointing to research, etc. is exactly why I'm not in favor of my tax dollars supporting this potentially dead-end pursuit. If Private Company, Inc. wants to put aside R&D money to do so, laissez-faire.
"Unless you don't think that growing fetuses for origin cell and organs is crossing the line."
As someone who's intimately familiar with the IVF process (seeing as how my twins are alive today 100% due to it), I can assure you that currently, no blastocysts (5-day old collections of cells may indeed be life, but it's not a fetus until it attaches to the uterine wall) are being grown and harvested for any other purpose than for couples DESPERATELY wanting to have their own children. This distinction is lost on the maniacal far-right who simply want to label anything of such a nature as 'abortion'.
The two sides of this argument will never EVER meet in the middle on this.
Rush was saying that Frist has always been a pro abortionist...just mouths the words of Pro life.
"you slighted The Dead Milkmen...shame."
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
People think I'm SATAN!!!
MWHUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
COME TO THE DARK SIDE!!!!
You know that I simply chose a handle that is unique and easy to remember (and yes, based on the bad Dead Milkmen album of the same name), rather than something like a 'JWalsh0234785' or similar.
If there is a 'Satan', I'd have to imagine it would be far more subtle than I in its attempts to wreak havoc upon Mankind.
You're a clown trying to slither out of the statist corner. You complimented the posters entire post, not a specific sentence. In short I can see why you would be the Lord of the Flies, you are to be blunt FOS, like your namesake Bill Clinton.
Sad to say I couldn't listen to Rush today, but thanks for passing his comments on. If so, and I have every reason to believe it is, then he's toast as far as a Presidency is concerned. We may lose the WH, but the Party activists, myself included, will make sure that a pro abortionist is not on the ticket in 08. The Primaries are around the corner in the world of politics.
I understand how you feel because I am in total agreement morally. I have one question however that involves political tactics - modus operandi whatever it is called. Liberals are never asked to define their candidacy by whether they espouse socialist beliefs or not. They are never asked to publically proclaim their views on whether they would appoint pro abortion judges to the SC or Federal courts. They get away with platitudes whereas the feet of conservatives are held to the fire of specificity.
It seems to me that conservatives should play the game as well. Get into power and then do the work that needs to be done. Start doing what Judge Roberts is doing: Play the game until you get in. Then go all out to affect change - hopefully he will do that once he gets in.
Every Christian I've talked to says dump Frist! It's George Allen or Ron Santorum in 2008.
"Some of us know where this is leading."
True enough. And it's leading there whether you like it or not. There's no way you can use your morality to stop it at this point...and I'll assume for the sake of this thread that you are 100% right in all matters of this topic. Still doesn't matter - Pandora's Box has been opened. Whether or not our taxes are used won't stop this research from continuing.
