A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-29 thru 07-31-05....T.G.I.F. at the Finest

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Hi there FRiend. When I read this I could not help but think of Grundy Mountain Mission school.(Grundy Va) .where we sponsored, financed support & took our youth groups for "mission projects"... So many stories but the relevant one was in one of the classroom buildings was a mural with pix & the words..

Only the strong can be truly gentle. Only the gently can be truly strong. (with wonderful graphics)

That permeated my mind/soul. so true. I have the pix & will scan / digitalized eventually.

Okay.. are you too having computer problems as I am? (cant get away from the doggone thing, needing rest badly?_)

Not at all. I just am unwinding after a day I would rather not have had - finding someone who ought to have impeccible integrity lied, bald-facedly, to me, and then has been working for a week to cover their tracks.

I'm just about to turn in.

The Frist speech has me thinking very soberly... and I think it likely to be a good while before my tiny brain comes to a conclusion. Reminds me somewhat of my "capital punishment question" struggles.

I will "chew on" your thread & post in AM if I have time before going to Columbus in the early hours. I do already have my mental / spiritual compass set but need to mull on the 'situational ethics' aspect

Thanks for the tune, Victoria. I should mention to you that I e-mailed that "NASA wake-up" version of "Amarillo By Morning" to a friend of mine in Alberta who likes that song -- he really got a kick out of it.

Thanks, Dolly. I have to update some of those photos -- I've been tracking down some new ones to use on the page.

I'm a real "ramblin' man" of sorts -- lived in Alberta for a couple of years and still do some business up there.

Great! I was a bit concerned about posting the NASA link because I thought it didn't sound good at the end. I'm glad your friend liked it.

Hmmm -- anything by Bob Seger would be great. Can you find that?

Great -- that's a classic.

My favorite Bob Seger tune is "Night Moves." I love the way he makes such a great song out of his simple acoustic guitar chords.

Source Of Hope

Read:
Lamentations 3:19-41

Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed. —Lamentations 3:22

Bible In One Year: Micah 5-7

cover What good is faith when all seems lost? I've asked that penetrating question in my life, and not long ago I received a letter from a mom who has asked it as well.

She told me that she and her husband set out in their marriage to seek God's will for their lives and entrust their future to Him. Then their second son was born with Down syndrome. Their initial response was "grief, shock, and disbelief." Yet the same day he was born, God used Philippians 4:6-7 to put peace in their hearts and give them an undying love for their precious son. It says: "Let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts."

But their days in the desert were not over. Nine years later, their fourth son was diagnosed with cancer. Before he reached his third birthday, he was gone. Shock, pain, and sadness again broke into their world. And again, they found help from God and His Word. "When the grief overwhelms us," says this mom, "we turn to God's Word and His gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ."

When life's troubles hit us like a tidal wave, we can remember that God's compassions never fail (Lamentations 3:22). He can give us the hope we need. —Dave Branon

My sheep I know, they are My own,
I leave them not in trials alone;
I will be with them to the end—
Their hope, their joy, their dearest Friend. —Anon.

Feeling hopeless reminds us that we are helpless without God.
