Thanks for your post. Reading it made me realize how little I know about this particular topic.

Yes, I've been reading about illegal immigration and (our lack of) border control and all the perks that illegals receive here, courtesy of our hardearned tax dollars. But, I don't remember reading anything about the Ford Foundation or the Tide Group and their role in it. I'll be sure to look into that further. Thanks for all the info.

As a side note, I admit to being more of an "emailer" than a letter-writer. I don't bother much now because I know my messages will be deleted. But, there was one time when email did work (sort of). That was the time when a large group of us clogged our state legislators' email and phone lines with messages and calls, all on one day. We got their attention, although it only maddened them. That day was followed up with a protest (that I couldn't attend), and they backed down.

Illegal immigration found me when they ran off all my legal international neighbors with noise, crime, littering, machismo arrogance and sheer numbers. If it weren't for the members of Free Republic relating their stories from around the country I'd have thought my quandary was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Turns out it's happening all over the country at an ever-increasing rate.

Long story short (heh heh), I stood up to the rowdy parking lot fests and cruisers raising hell at all hours until the gang graffiti and bandannas (gang insignia) showed up. Five years of combat was enough - my poor car deserved a medal for all the gutless vandalism it endured.

("I never surrendered. They took my horse and made him surrender." - Chief Dan George as Lone Wattie, "The Outlaw Josie Wales").

I'm not kidding myself...they'll be coming to my new apartment complex before long if nothing is done.

Kudos on your proactive activism! I write and counter-protest the Liberals and their tools whenever possible. No amount of keyboard warrioring replaces getting out there in these people's faces in a civil manner while standing by our flag. Civics education has become nearly nonexistent while the Pledge of Allegiance is derided as a shameful relic...and that's just from the teachers.

The NumbersUSA service I mentioned does tremendous work in exchange for little effort on your part. They flood the Congressional offices with faxes that you can reword if you don't like their suggested text (though it's usually right on). They've actually been putting a dent in many critical votes. We need every edge we can get in this battle for our very preservation.

I understand exactly what you mean about rowdy neighbors and car break-ins. The neighborhood where I live now is nice, but until now, I had to deal with that stuff a lot, too. My gripe now is against those HUD-financed home ownership programs, which helped move some felons next to my folks. (And, oh, has that been an experience...)

I'm getting myself into lots of trouble here today. :-0 But I should clarify: I'm an unusual Freeper - in fact, I'm more libertarian than conservative - and I oppose the Pledge, too. I've never "actively" opposed it, like I've been involved in "actively" (in a limited way) opposing other legislation. I oppose government control of education altogether.

To anyone else out there reading this: Please don't flame me. We've all been through that discussion before - I'm just trying to be up front with a fellow Freeper. I'm already being flamed on two other threads today, so that should meet the quota. :-)

Being that I know of many Hispanics who are whiter than me and/or who are of German, Italian and Chinese ancestry, your contention that "Hispanic" is a "race" is laughable, but understandable if all you have around you are brown Mexicans. Remember that there are more people in Buenos Aires with Italian last names than Spanish last names. Should they be considered "nonwhite" just because they hail from Latin America and speak Spanish?

Ethnic jokes typically disappear as each group is absorbed into American culture. Jokes about Swedes and Norwegians were very common until the mid-20th century. Polish jokes are no longer as common as they were for the same reason.

I myself am of Polish and Italian ancestry and can tell you that both groups are essentially disappearing as distinct ethnic groups due to intermarriage and migration to other parts of the country where ethnicity is not important for white folks. I don't consider myself to be culturally "Polish American" or "Italian American." I consider myself to be a New Yorker more than anything else (even though I live in Seattle now).

Then I guess they're not really Hispanic (I don't know if you're aware of this, but even Spaniards are not considered "Hispanic"). But it's not like I care what anyone calls them, or what they call themselves. As I said, racial politics don't interest me all that much anyway.

I hear ya.

All of my ancestors were Italian, and I grew up in an Italian neighborhood. At one time, they identified with the part of Italy they were from. They even had separate organizations, and frowned upon marrying each other. Then intermarriage led to people identifying as simply Italian; I went to a school for Italians only. Now, it seems that we've finally "assimilated". Of course, the old stereotypes (the mob, talking with our hands, etc.) are still alive and kicking. ;-)

That's funny - I was active in the Libertarian Party during the Clinton era until their open-borders stance made me face up to my basic Conservatism. Perhaps your put off by the self-named Neos running roughshod over the Republican party and their Democrat lackies (I know I am). Weasels all willing to cut deals for themselves and their associates at the expense of the greater public.

Yep, you and I have the same people wishing us dead, just different perceptions of them.

What's wrong with the Pledge of Allegiance? I found that moment got all students unified and focused on the same page with no harm done. A moment of silence and calm would accomplish much the same but I find nothing wrong with honoring one's country in a group setting. We've made grave mistakes but remain the model the rest of the world seeks to emulate.

I'm just trying to "keep that real" while anti-Americanism seems to be the rule rather than the exception in the education establishment. What can I say when 17-year old veteran advocate Nikki USA asks me why so many of her fellow students say that their parents are apathetic to veterans needs? Tough question deserving an honest answer...and all I can come up with is that Veterans are constantly given the shaft as punishment for being too patriotic (willing to serve our nation's call/interests/whatever while they couldn't dredge up more courage than criticism).

Today the military is focusing on U.S. Territories and finding high recruitment from kids willing to do the job for a chance of advancement. While poverty is an incentive they say amazing things like "This is my chance to pay America back for keeping my homeland free." Our kids have no sense of oppressing regimes taking away their internet, cellphones, instant messaging, etc. that they've grown up expecting as their due. On their behalf they've also found the traditional employment opportunities we knew totally dominated by illegals doing that work for two-thirds the wage (by their hiring practices you shall know them). I think everyone caught hiring illegals without checking should have their names and pictures put up in local newspapers and a net database for all to see.

That would make it easier for ethic-less politians to hook up with potential contributors.

40 hours? You'd better get some sleep! Tomorrow, you will wake up and wonder why you even had this conversation with an anonymous person on the internet... ;-)

About the Pledge, I am pro-America, just not pro-Pledge. I started out supporting it; then later opposed it when I learned about how it was written and rewritten; and now it has gotten to the point where I oppose government schools, truancy laws, or government officials a.k.a. teachers leading children in reciting anything. I guess I'm not your typical Freeper.

I know what you mean about the LP - I'm not crazy about the open borders policy, either, as it seems to be a utopian idea. There are other LP ideas I'm not crazy about, but overall I do lean in that type of limited government direction. I tend to vote GOP.
