Drinks companies have been ordered to use uglier men in their advertising campaigns. The Advertising Standards Authority believes "balding" and "paunchy" men would be less likely to encourage women to drink to achieve social success. The new advertising code stresses that links must not be made between alcohol and seduction.
A campaign for popular sparkling drink Lambrini has become the first to fall foul of the new rules.
The Authority objected to a poster which showed three women "hooking" a slim, young man in a parody of a fairground game.
The industry regulator instructed the firm: "We would advise that the man in the picture should be unattractive - ie overweight, middle-aged, balding etc.
"In its current form we consider that the ad is in danger of implying that the drink may bring sexual/social success, because the man in question looks quite attractive and desirable to the girls.
"If the man was clearly unattractive, we think that this implication would be removed from the ad."
Lambrini owner John Halewood said the Authority should not be in the business of defining who was and was not unattractive enough to star in ads.
He said: "It makes some very understandable rulings to encourage sensible drinking but we're not sure they're qualified to decide for the nation who's sexy and who's not.
"Sexual attraction is happily one of the few things in life that can't be governed."
I'm sorry Polyxene, but there hasn't been enough beer made since the beginning of time to drink Helen Thomas pretty. She is what we real drinkers call "coyote ugly", that is if you wake up with her head on your arm, you gnaw your arm off to keep from waking her up!
Time to don the Beer-goggles......
I don't watch enough TV to even know what beer commercials are currently running, but I can't decide if I should laugh or be insulted at this:

Duh...guess we're too stooopid to figure that one out for ourselves!
Here..I wrote one for the guys:
The American Heart Association announced an agreement today with the National Football League and the National Basketball Association to use uglier women as cheerleaders. The Association believes "unattractive" and "paunchy" women would be less likely to encourage men into a sedentary lifestyle. The new code, designed to free men from an endless lifetime of beer swilling and game watching, stresses that watching attractive women jump and jiggle is equally bad for a man's heart.
I never really needed much encouragment to drink, but never realized I could drink to become more successful. I wonder if my boss will let me drink on the job now?
"The new advertising code stresses that links must not be made between alcohol and seduction."
Oh heavens no....that never happens. If I had a nickel for every time I have been seduced by alcohol....I would have $5.65.
Excuse me.. I consider myself "fearsome" thank-you-very-much.
Won't this lure all ugly men into drinking? Is that fair?

They've already applied that rule for stewardesses!
Get in line...
Only in Seattle.
In Seattle, an addadichtomy is required before they'll be hired. ;o)

At 2 she was a 10. - Tom
LOL! You are SO right! Helen gives a whole new meaning to the word, "ugly"! Gotta be another adjective to describe that NAG HAG!
WOW! That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of! As if a woman would drink something because some cute guy was in the ad. Yeah, right, we will be getting dates with him if we drink that product!
Besides, I like slightly overweight men. My favorite was 6'3" and about 275 pounds. Who wants some guy that looks like a girl anyway?
These guys wouldn't know sexy if it bit them.
Some pretty boy is not sexy.
This is sexy.
