Post Goes for the Jugular of Roberts' Children - (how tacky, but how predictable!)
TRADITIONAL VALUES COALITION.ORG ^ | JULY 25, 2005 | Editor, TVC

Posted on 07/25/2005 5:50:56 PM PDT by CHARLITE

Washington, DC – Traditional Values Coalition Executive Director Andrea Lafferty complained today that an article in the Washington Post about the clothes worn by Supreme Court nominee John Roberts’ children was “unfair and disappointing.”

Mrs. Lafferty said in a letter sent to Post Editor Leonard Downie, Jr. that the Post has now set a new pecking order for “unfair journalism which ignores substance and slides right into chortling about form.”

“If you can’t come up with something disgusting about the actual nominee or his wife then rough-up the kids some and see what happens,” Mrs. Lafferty said today.

Post fashion writer Robin Givhan complained about “the nostalgic costuming of the children” at the President’s announcement

“Just when it looked like there was an opportunity for a substantive debate over Mr. Roberts qualification for the Supreme Court, the Post drags it down to ‘your mother dresses you funny’ school yard banter.

“Maybe the cynics over at the Post are not impressed with the President or the White House but a family about to see their father nominated by the President of the United States for America’s highest court will probably want to dress-up for the occasion. Most Americans would understand what the Post views as some sort of cynical ploy and deception.

“There are clothes you wear to the playground and clothes you wear to meet the President, Mrs. Roberts and her adorable children understand that which has apparently eluded the Post.

“Let’s raise the bar on this debate back to where it is the nominee who is given a vigorous public examination. And let’s leave the rest of the family alone.”

Don't you get the impression that she thought Monica's thong was appropriate attire for the Oval Office?

Here are Givhan's qualifications for being a fashion critic. Apparently the stint at "Vogue" really got her up to speed.

Robin Givhan is originally from Michigan. She majored in English at Princeton University and has a masters degree in journalism from the University of Michigan. Robin has been on the staff of the Detroit Free Press, San Francisco Chronicle and Vogue magazine. She's been at The Washington Post since 1995 and in addition to covering the fashion industry, also helped to cover the 2000 presidential election, the Atlanta Olympic Games and, of course, the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Robin contributed to a couple of books and freelanced for Essence, The International Herald Tribune and Town and Country, among others. She lives in New York and has a dog.

and, of course, the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

One can only wonder what.

Did she have an article about what the victims wore?

I saw nothing wrong with the way the children were dressed, but I did notice that the mother had no control over her little son. He had no idea who was the boss. No one had taught him not to bite his mother.

If a man can not control is own house, should he be trying to guide a whole nation?

I didn't see him biting but it won't be his fathers job to guide us. I just want him to be able to read and follow the Constitution.

They seem like normal kids dressed appropriately to me. This criticism is very low rent, but you have to consider the source.

He had no idea who was the boss.

It is obvious that your only experience is with beta males. ...beta males those men who are destined to take orders and kiss butt.

Alpha males on the other hand are nearly impossible to control. Alpha males are destined to give orders and have their butts kissed.

Alpha males tend to breed more Alpha males. Beta males breed more Beta males. Betas are easy to train and control. They are very good followers but only Alpha males ever become leaders.

I have yet to see many people in Washington DC dress appropriately, least of all Robin Givhan. It's like they missed the fashion bus for the last ten years. I thought what the Roberts' family wore was entirely appropriate and looked great. What did she expect, JLO or Britney Spears?
