An incredible number of attacks by Islamic jihadists have been planned over the last 35 years. Although many have been averted, far too many plots have succeeded:
Since 1970, jihadists carried out attacks in over 60 cities, in at least 41 countries, on five continents and Pacific islands. Jihadists have assassinated heads of state, ambassadors and military personnel, and killed thousands of men, women, and children of many ages, ethnicities and religions (including Muslims). They have sometimes deliberately targeted children and babies. The 78 incidents listed below should not be taken as a complete list, merely a representative one. The listed attacks resulted in at least 7478 deaths (rate of over two attacks/death toll over 210 annually). They began 33 years before our invasion of Iraq. |
Had just one of the biggest known aborted attacks been successful (e.g., Operation Bojinka), the death toll would have been in the tens of thousands, resulting in an annual rate of many hundreds killed. Luck, as much as intelligence and investigative skill, has prevented some massive attacks. Operation Bojinka was only discovered due to an apartment fire. However, the frequency and complexity of such attacks have continued to escalate since the 1970's.
We easily could have lost well over 10,000 on 9/11/01. Yet that was not the biggest known planned attack on New York City. The same cell which carried out the 1993 WTC attack intended to bomb the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, the UN building, and other NYC landmarks on one day. Had they succeeded, the death toll could have been beyond unthinkable. Similarly, had the plot to bomb Los Angeles International Airport succeeded during New Year's, 2000, the death toll could have been horrendous. Sooner or later, we may run out of luck.
We know the jihadists train and carry out small test runs for much larger planned attacks. Was the 2001 anthrax bioweapons attack such a test run? We may never know that is, we may never know until the day we're hit with a much larger bioweapons attack. We also know from captured terrorist documents, computers and equipment that the jihadist network wants to make or obtain chemical and nuclear weapons. They are already way too close to such weapons in Pakistan and Iran. Most importantly, we know they take a very long view of history. Their plots can and often do take years to execute.
If this list doesn't make clear that we are in a bona fide World War, what will? Yes, it's an unconventional war or, to use the current faddish term, an asymmetrical war. We are facing what amounts to a shadowy guerrilla army that operates worldwide, rather than massed armies openly fielded by nations. Nevertheless, for our own survival we need to come to grips with the fact that we are, indeed, in a World War such as has never been seen before. The enemy has been escalating the frequency and ferocity of his attacks over the past 35 years while we have been oblivious to the growing danger.

Bombs were to be planted on 11 U.S.-bound airliners that had stopovers all around East Asia and Southeast Asia. The aircraft would have blown up over the Pacific and South China Sea almost simultaneously. If this plan worked, as many as 4000 would have perished and air travel would have been shut down worldwide. |

Well of course, that too. How silly of me to have forgotten.
Thanks, mercy. If I knew how, I would. I did just finish pinging some FR folks I know.
Not only do I see us in WW3, but this country is is the fight for its life.
Note too that while in WWII, the Japanese and Germans both preached racial superiority (like the muslims do), it did not take killing every last Japanese or citizen or soldier to bring peace to the world.
And those nations are not hot beds of violent extremism today (relative to their warmongering past).
Thanks, Rushmore Rocks. That's the point of this thread. To try to help people see the massive scope of what we're all up against. This is not just an Israeli-Palestinian problem. It never was.
I'd really like to have this list. Anyway you could get it into PDF form and have it available on a website?

Extremely well stated, weegee. The particular point that I quoted above should be shouted from every rooftop.
Excellent Piece. To which, I would like to add this rather long piece:
What the press and most liberals don't understand is that when they begin to apply moral equivalance tests to terrorism...justifying it for whatever reason, they make it justifiable far any reason. When Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) says it's OK for the Palenstinians to use suicide bombers (for whatever perverted reasoning) against Israel, he makes it acceptable to use them in London. Amazingly, both he, the press and other liberals can't see that simply by asking, "aren't your (US/Brit) policies responsible for the attacks on London and Madrid, etc?"..that they are giving further justification for more attacks.
If the Iraq war is responsible for this terrorism, what was responsible for 9/11...or the USS Cole...or the Millenium plot? Using Liberal-Logic, Bill Clinton would be responsible for those attacks since he not only attacked Iraq, he also attacked Afghanistan and Sudan, resulting in a direct declaration of war from Bin-Laden, himself. But wait....weren't those attacks retribution for the attacks on the US Embassies in Africa? What liberals are essentially telling us is that we can't defend ourselves for fear of what the terrorists might do. And make no mistake about it; if it wasn't Iraq, Afghanistan would've sufficed on its own, as Clinton's 1998 bombing proved. Those who don't think there would've been any reprecussion from displacing AQ and the Taliban, are naive. Sadly, If liberals want, they can continue to make excuses for terrorism all the way back to our initial support of Israel....and earlier.
Unfortunately, Islamic terrorism existed long before Israel even came into existence. What's disgusting about the Left and their excuses for Muslim anger is that they have no historical perspective about these so-called grievances. Islam's anger with the West didn't just start in the last century...and it certainly didn't have anything to do with oil, or even Israel, for that matter. From its founding, Islam has been an expansionist ideology. For all the whining we hear about the humiliation they suffered over their deconstructed Ottoman Empire, it was they who helped perpetuate its collapse.
The Ottoman empire was in shambles to begin with because of tribal warfare...but to make things worse, it was the Ottoman Turks who decided it was in their interest to side with Germany in WWI. What became of their empire was no different than what became of the empires of Germany and Austria/Hungary, as those empires were also carved up because of their aggression. If we were to extend liberal-logic further, one could say that Hitler actually had some justifications for his acts prior to WWI since the Treaty of Versailles was extremely punitive on Germany. But I guarantee you won't hear a liberal defending Hitler.
Ironically, with all the excuses given for Islam's hatred of the West and especially the USA, it was the USA who led the way in arguing for Arab independence following WWII; and for all of Europe's consternation of US imperialism infringing on the Mid-East, it was Europe who helped create the very divisions that exists today. From the Balfour Declaration to various partition plans, Europe was the center for Mid-East reorganization. While the League of Nations and the victors of WWI did take special interest in the crumbling Ottoman Empire, instituting mandates to be governed by Britain and France, the Muslims of this region have no one to blame but themselves. This was a group of people who were engaged in the worst holocaust against indigenous people outside of that which occurred in Germany during WWII.
From the Christian Assyrians to the Armenians to the Greeks, Slavs and Jews...Muslims had been ethnically cleansing what was Asia Minor of non-Muslims for centuries. As this threat continued to encroach further into the "soft underbelly of Europe," the victors of WWI finally decided it was time to put a stop to this 2nd Jihad, which had not only killed millions of people, but was continuing to threaten Europe...again. And I say again, because Islam had been attempting its conquest of Europe since their first incursions into S.France from as early as 732...to their eventual sacking of Byzantine in 1453. What Muslims (and liberals) seem to forget about The Crusades, is that they were a reaction to Islam's expansion into Christian Holy Land...reaching into the Balkans and threatening France and Spain.
Yes, Muslims can bitch and moan, and play the perpetual victim of so-called European colonization...and Leftists can defend them and help make excuses for their hatred and anger to help ease their guilt; but remember, that it was Islam who initiated this reaction by their own aggressions that went unchecked for centuries...including their further alliances with Hitler in WWII. Ironically, one of these alliances was that of the Albanian Muslims with Hitler, who, after annexing Kosovo to be part of the Albanian/Axis puppet state, allowed Muslims to commit gross artrocities against other indigenous people of the region...including murdering and driving the Serbs out of Kosovo. As a result of this alliance, Muslims were allowed to further perpetuate their dominance in this region, which has continued in conflict until today.
Islam is a religion, that within its first 100 years, conquered more land and people than the Romans did in their storied history. Amazingly, liberals seem to only have a short historical memory when it comes aggression and retribution. Even today...far away from the Mid-East, Muslims are at war (and have been) with other indigenous people (and Christians) in regions such as Indonesia, Sudan, Philippines, Somalia, Chechnya, the Balkans...and now London, etc. The question isn't what "our" policies have done to incite such hatred and anger; it's what has Islam done to inspire this hatred and anger...a belief that the World is theirs for the taking. What's worse, is the liberal attitude that looks to jusitfy this ideology by searching for "root-causes"...while ignoring this history.
And here's some irony about Islam's hatred for the Great Satan. For all the abuse America takes from these ingrates, it was America who led the way in pressuring Europe to recognize Arab independence after WWII. The Atlantic Charter, which proposed giving power to the people to determine their own governments was one of the first steps in moving the Mid-East away from their former mandates and colonial heritage "started by Europe." It was Europe...and even the UN, who were the major architects in planning the fate of Mid-East statehood even after WWII. Sadly, todays liberal-socialists who are governing Europe, continue to operate under this misplaced guilt, that they must give special accomodation and reconpence to Muslims for Europe's past behaviour; unfortunately, they also continue to ignore Islam's past behaviour...at their own peril. Liberal guilt is literally digging their/our graves.
The irony here, is that unlike Europe, it was America who recognized Egypt's right to nationalize the Suez Canal...despite the fact that both France and Britain had purchased those rights earlier and financed its construction. The same can be said for the oil production in these lands, which were also expropriated after Western nations invested millions of dollars in these infrastructures and technology...since these people didn't have the skill to do it. Sure, America also had it's own interest in this region, but those interests only became relevant when, again, some Muslim nations decided to side with the enemies of humanity (USSR) during the Cold War. We don't have to steal someones oil since we are more than willing to pay for it. For all Islam's complaints about oppression, it has been their leaders that have sided with some of the worst tyrants throughout history.
From the Muslim secessionist movement in India (Pakistan) to financial and military aid during the Cold War and support in the Gulf War, Americans have naively stood with Muslims and defended them against aggressor nations and persons. In our own naivety and ignorance, we have even supported Muslims against Christians, whether it was the Muslim secessionist movement in Kosovo and the Balkans...or stopping such Christian movements from occurring in Indonesia/East Timor. Heck, after a decade of complete appeasement, with financial and military aid going to Muslim governments that we knew were also committing atrocities against minority populations (Turkey, Albania/Balkans and Indonesia)...we still got attacked on 9/11.
While Muslims like to lament the further division of their territories following the World Wars, many of these partition plans were actually necessary to thwart continuing tribal and religious differences. The truth is, Muslims not only have a problem living among non-Muslims...they have a problem living among themselves. One of the reasons for the creation of these artifical boundaries in the Mid-East, was to protect Muslims from other Muslims...ala, the Sunnis and Shi'ites. One of the biggest hoaxes perpetrated by the Left is their reporting of Israeli violence against the Palestinians, when their own Arab brethren have committed far worse atrocities against them...and vica-versa. The number-one killer of Muslims, are Muslims...with Saddam right up there at the top.
From a historical perspective, America has a very short history with the Mid-East. And on many of those occasions, this relationship was one of support...whether it was our leadership in their independence, support for them against Soviet encroachment and aggression...or even against other Muslims like Saddam. Yet, today, we are not only called the Great Satan by these same people, we are blamed for the origins of much of these problems by those who were the original architects....Europe. The fact that the Left has not only re-wrote the history books but has perpetuated this lie in defense of terrorism makes these people as dangerous as those who are attacking us.
Agreed. I would just widen the scope to say Western civilization is in the fight of its life, in some respects equal to that of WWII.
Unfortunately, I don't have my own website. The best I could do is email you the HTML. Let me know via FReepmail if you want to do it that way.
Stop giving them propoganda talking points.
You'll just get them mad at us.
Your post just endangered us and threatened our way of life.
Do I really need to show my "/sarcasm" tag on this?
I hope not.
Yes, indeed. A heck of a lot. God help us if the day should ever come when the Islamofreaks get their hands on nuclear weapons.
The full scope of this war against civilization is almost overwhelming.
Thanks for all the work that went into this. Bookmarked for future reference (and for use a club to use against any numskull who tries to say that ANY terrorism is our President's fault).
You're so very right, snugs. I hope all Brits come to quickly realize what you and Ivan have known all along.
Grin...of course not.
You can set one up for free here.
Everyone got focused on the world ushering in a new millenium (actually such perspective comes from honoring the birth of Christ). We "could" have ushered in a new era where past differences were set aside but the only muslim movement that I am aware of (the movement that changes lives) saw fit to flex their muscle and destroy all other cultures.
Remember that in early 2001, the Taliban blew up ancient Buddhist statues because they were offended by them.
If they can't play nice, they will at least get a timeout or harsher punishment.
I know of Christians coming to aid around the world. When was the last major outpouring of assistance from muslim nations to non-muslim nations?
Good as your idea might be, good luck, in view the way the federal government is already treating the Minutemen.
If we win the war on terrorism, especially with civilian help, the Feds will not feel wanted/needed and therefore it isn't going to happen. They need war/chaos to justify their existence.
