I saw suspect shot dead
By NICK PARKER,MIKE SULLIVAN, STEVE KENNEDY, CHARLES RAE and VIRGINIA WHEELER
A SHAKEN commuter told last night how he watched armed undercover cops shoot dead a suicide bomb suspect by pumping five bullets into him.
Mark Whitby, 47, was sitting reading his paper when the Asian man leapt into his Tube carriage at Stockwell station with the plain-clothes cops in pursuit.
As the man stumbled the cops closed in and fearing he was about to detonate a bomb immediately opened fire.
Mark said: As the man leapt on the train I looked at his face. He looked just like a cornered rat ... like a cornered fox, absolutely petrified.
Then he tripped. One of the police officers was holding a black automatic pistol in his left hand. They held it down to him and unloaded five shots into him bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
Five shots and hes dead. It was no further than five yards from me. It was like a nightmare a very distressing sight.
Last night police sources told how undercover officers had followed the suspect to the station from an address in neighbouring Brixton, South London.
The house had been under surveillance overnight after its address was found on documents in one of the rucksacks used in Thursdays failed bomb attempts.
At 9am yesterday a young Asian man walked out of the house wearing a heavily-padded jacket.
He was tailed from a distance and followed on to a bus.
The officers in pursuit were wearing concealed earpieces connecting them to Anti-Terrorist chiefs at New Scotland Yard.
When it became clear the man intended to get off the bus near the station the officers urgently requested armed assistance fearing he had a bomb beneath his padded jacket and planned to detonate it on a train.
Unarmed agents were tailing a terrorist and had to call for armed assistance? Why were they unarmed?
Not to mention a big time message. Why do you think this is getting such pub.?

Did he?---
Not exactly, but he was dressed to kill! :^)
From the BBC...
"Shot man not connected to bombing
A man shot dead by police hunting the bombers behind Thursday's London attacks was unconnected to the incidents, police have confirmed.
A Scotland Yard statement said the shooting was a "tragedy" which was regretted by the Metropolitan Police.
The man was shot dead after police followed him from a south London flat to Stockwell Tube station on Friday.
Two other men have been arrested and are being questioned after bombers targeted three Tube trains and a bus.
The statement read: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.
"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005.
"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."
The statement confirmed the man was followed by police from a block of flats that was under surveillance.
The man's death is being investigated by officers from the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, and will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission."
Christ, what a complete mess.
I think the left wing media thinks most of us care that he got shot up. I don't. I'm glad.
Regards, Ivan
In all fairness to him though, we may not be reading all of his comments. He could have followed with , "they had to stop the guy though. Just hard to watch"
Anyone wearing a long, padded coat in 90 degree weather and running from armed police isn't very 'crafty'. Just another suicidal muslim.
Piece? No.
According to Fox News, the British police have concluded that the suspect had nothing to do with the bombings.
The reaction to this should be ... interesting, to say the least.
Hate to burst anybody's bubble, but it isn't hard to rig up a "deadman switch," which detonates when the bomber lets go rather than when he pushes the button. Head shots won't help in that case.
You and me both!
Sounds more like a Chicago rubout than law enforcement operation.
In reading and watching the news (CNN was on in the hotel lobby), I continually hear more about the distress of the commuters about the rat being shot than I've ever heard about the victims of the bombings.
Liberalism and the ACLU feel more for the terrorists than the victims of terrorism.
Does it matter though? If reports here are right and he's running, tries to take a hostage etc. he's dangerous.
they only shot that guy once. They did shoot his corpse another four times.
"The house had been under surveillance overnight after its address was found on documents in one of the rucksacks used in Thursdays failed bomb attempts."
I hope this was Al Qaeda and reflects their current skill level. This is reminiscent of dumbass Richard "shoe bomber" Ried.
WAIT !!!I'll go with you. I too ended up in the same den of inequity. Oh the humanity!
They shoot terrorists, don't they?
Ever been to the UK in "summer"? Brrrr.
All I can say, it´s NOT unusual to wear an overcoat on an average summer day in London.
