A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

LOL, love all the 'Yogiisms' you both posted.
Did you ever see the bumper sticker, 'I brake for bugs', I was driving with a friend of mine, Peggy....a bug flew onto the windshield and she put her foot to the brake, I kid you not. Like Yogiism's, my friends and I know quite a few 'Pegism's' :-) Her husband is always teasing her about the things she does and says, lovingly, of course.

Oh I am so glad you had a good day & the weather cooperated.
I loved the short amount of time at the inauguration I had with Lori / Amy.. but there was limited time, 1000 FReepers & so much going on. Would have been nice to have stretched that into a longer time. Guess the California group did stay longer. I was just there two nights.. too quick. But my ride needed to get back and I was thankful for the time I had

Crowd Pleasers
They loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:43
|
I once read a newspaper story about an old carnival headliner nicknamed "Cannonball." In his younger days, he was blasted out of a cannon 1,200 times, pulled a 90-pound weight across a table with his eyelids, and performed many other bizarre stunts. When asked why he did such things, he replied, "Do you know what it's like to feel the applause of 60,000 people? That's why I did it over and over."
In John 12 we learn about some leaders who were also motivated by a desire to please others. In their case, however, they refused to follow Jesus openly because they wanted to be accepted by the Pharisees. Although they had seen the Savior's miracles and believed in Him, they wouldn't acknowledge this publicly. "They loved the praise of men more than the praise of God" (v.43). And I believe we are safe in assuming that many people failed to turn to Jesus because they were also crowd pleasers who feared the disapproval of these "chief" crowd pleasers. We are all subject to social pressures. If we are true to ourselves and to God, we'll be able to withstand the strong pull of the crowd. But if we become crowd pleasers, we'll be in far worse shape than the man who kept climbing back into that cannon! Mart De Haan
If we, to gain the world's applause, Refuse to own the Savior's cause, What shame will fill us on that day When Thou Thy glory shall display! Anon.
Yielding to God's Spirit within prevents conforming to the world without.

Hi Gabz, how's your ankle?
I did a good one to myself yesterday. all these years of using nail guns I have never shot myself. Well that ended yesterday, I shot a 3 1/2 inch spike into my foot.
Picture where the spike went thru the feet of Christ, that is where my spike went it. Didn't go through the otherside but went in all the way.
It hurts like the dickens, didn't hurt when I did it at all so I didn't hit a bone.
Stupid.

OMG - Rus.............Just thinking about that hurts like the dickens......... I assume your tetnus shots are up to date?
My ankle has good days and not so good days. Today did not start out as a good day, I didn't realize the dog was in the bedroom and she banged into me as I was getting off the bed....talk about seeing stars.
I know what I have been meaning to ask you........How is your wife doing?

Good Saturday Morning Everyone!
Love the Yogi ism's. My favorite is "The game isn't over until it's over".
Continuing with our Southern Brunch theme I've made up another graphic for fruit and mint iced tea to stay cool by on this hot summer day. (Sorry if it's hard to read, I'm still learning how to do this)

So sorry to hear about your injury, Your Honor.
Imagine it will be quite sore for a while, unable to stay off your feet and pamper it.
Thank you for the Daily Bread, as always.
Speaking of "crowd pleasers," I note today is....[drum roll...]

Surely, Gabz, your daughter would like one - or ten!
And JustAmy, Marissa would like one of each, I think..:))

Mornin' Aqua! I LUV iced tea!!
Another 'crowd pleaser' would be smoothies,
and I found some recipes...here's one:
===================================================
Strawberry Smoothie
Blended strawberry drinks always rank high with visitors
to the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, and other fairs.
Try this version of the sweet, crimson specialty.
Ingredients
Makes 4 servings
2 cups fresh strawberries, stemmed and rinsed
1/2 of a 6-ounce can frozen lemonade or limeade concentrate (1/3 cup)
1/3 cup sifted powdered sugar
2-1/2 to 3 cups ice cubes
Preparation
In a blender container, combine strawberries, lemonade or limeade concentrate, and powdered sugar.
With the blender running, add ice cubes, one at a time,
through the opening in the lid until the mixture is slushy.
===================================================
I whipped up several kinds,
and engaged an impartial taste tester:
[I do believe he likes it!!]

The Strawberry Smoothie sounds wonderful. Strawberries are happy food - theory is you can't eat one without feeling happy. :)
I'm off to the North GA Mountain Fair for a few hours. Hope I don't burn up like usual, it's located beside a lake and that makes it so humid.
(Will bring back a funnel cake, think one is enough for everyone? :))
