"I had not been all that politically active prior to President Clinton's election," Robinson recalls. "Yes, I complained about government and politics just like everyone else
but politics was not particularly high on my list of priorities until Slick came along."
Robinson saw that the Clintons had brought a new and dangerous level of corruption to American politics. He could no longer remain aloof. "I knew that the newspapers and news media were lying and I knew that government had been encroaching on our individual rights and that our politicians were as corrupt as the day is long. I also knew that nothing would be done about it unless we the people somehow joined together to exercise our political free-speech rights."

Thanks!
As we noted on another thread, the MSM has a history of not publishing the real news like the danger of the Jihadists in America. They had rather try to blame Rove for what Wilson/Plame did to themselves.
One of the best ways to defeat $inator Hildebea$t is to neutralize her MSM friends.
The best way to do that is to keep Free Republic strong and viable.

Agreed. God bless Jim and his family and all who keep FR as a counter balance to the lying MSM.

The newer members on the forum don't know what it was like during the Clinton era. It was so frustrating to *know* that the media was completely biased. Rush Limbaugh was doing his share to get the word out, but there was still no way for the masses of conservatives to unite and speak out against the lies of the Clintons. Some of us newer members instinctively recognized Olds Media as propaganda years (decades?) before the Clintons came along. Fairly easy to discern propaganda when you find yourself losing all the time on every issue despite probability predicting that you ought to win half the time in a fair system. Thank you to the great people on FR who taught me many things during the past couple of years.

Wonderful Article. Sometimes in the normal hustle and bustle of things, we forget what a pivotal role FR has played over the years.

Rush Limbaugh was doing his share to get the word out, but there was still no way for the masses of conservatives to unite and speak out against the lies of the Clintons. And then...FreeRepublic! Oh man, was that great. Finally you could take the lying journalists and dissect and disassemble their lies one by one. It felt great, empowering. It also felt great to know that there were at least a few people that agreed.
Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. It was so different then. "Blog" was not even a word. Conservatives were forced to read their daily liberal hard-copy newspaper to get the news, only to be frustrated by the obvious media bias. And for most of us, it was hard work to scan the entire Internet to find out the "rest of the story," especially when it was about the Clintons. When we first clicked on Drudge's link that said "Whitewater," many of us had no clue what that word meant; we were just curious about the word and what was behind it.
And once we got here, gosh, there were so many things to talk about besides Whitewater -- the Oklahoma City bombing, Chinagate, Vince Foster, Ron Brown, all the other people on the Clinton Body Count list and the circumstances surrounding their deaths, Ash Alerts, blah, blah, blah...
There are many old FR threads where FReepers reminisce about the moment they discovered FreeRepublic, and they all seem to have one common theme: It was like finding out you had a long-lost twin brother or sister after spending years of being the lonely "only child." This seemed especially true for people who lived in the blue liberal places.
For anyone who is writing a book that includes FR, this phenomenon needs to be included, IMHO.

If not for Rathergate, I would have never found FR. I discovered FR while trying to escape the MSM's incessant bombardment of John Kerry crap. I too have become addicted & reliant. For me, FR has proven to be the single greatest source of information on the web. It's like breathing the air of heaven.
I've also become the envy of friends because I always seem to be on the fore of breaking news, always have the facts, always the correct interpretations and analysis.

The Washington Weekly identified Debevoise and Plimpton a law firm used by the Clintons and the Democratic National Committee as the coordinator of the attack. I wasn't around FR for that ~ but I'll bet it was a huge surprise...NOT! Thank you for all your hard work Jim (and John) and for your vision! You have made a difference for all of us.
Thanks for the ping Tonk!

I didn't realize how Gene and Luis along with the others mentioned played such pivotal roles. Thanks guys, from the bottom of my heart.
I'd love to see a follow-up article on the DC Chapter's role in continuing the fight. It would make a great part 2.

To: SFC MAC; Jim Robinson
In all the ensuing media hoopla over the power of the blogosphere, FreeRepublic tended to get short shrift. Many writers lumped it in with the blogs. But FreeRepublic is not a blog. It is an online community, a message board where tens of thousands of regular posters meet every day to analyze the news and coordinate their political activism.Yea! Someone got it right!
I love FR! Thanks Jim!
