Howlin' not only was the man SMIRKING, but I swear I saw him hold back a chuckle once or twice!

On another front, the little munchkin out of camera range reminded me of my own three sons, LOL!

The radar is fully operational. They own you when the radar has honed in. No way, no how was Mom going to chase him down last night. He OWNED her. In fact, for a short time last night, he owned Mom, Dad and The President of the United States!

That is my favorite age. As far as they are concerned Mom and Dad hung the moon.

>> In Roberts case it's the opposite. We are pretty certain he IS a conservative. Yes, you are right, there were other candidates, about whom we are more certain. But this one is pretty GOOD and is a cause for celebration.

I am feeling less anxious, today, after hearing the remarks of Bennett, Ingraham, Limbaugh, and, now, Hannity.

Isn't O'Reilly the only daily host that does not do their show live? What is he afraid of?

So, this looks to be very good news, and I am certainly happy it's NOT Clements--but I am still researching Roberts' record, before I say it IS good news.

That's good enuf for me.

I do know that Bush 41 says Souter is his greatest mistake as Prez and I know that Bush 43 doesn't want to make the same mistake. Here's hoping!!

I don't want to rain on the parade here... but how can we be sure this guy is REALLY a conservative? I know, I know.. I've read and heard all the same stuff you guys have... but seriously... How do we KNOW ?

Why is our side fighting against the democrats attempts to get this guy to say flat out how he feels on certain key issues? Aren't we just as interested in those answers?

I'm sorry for being such a pessimist... but time and time again Republicans have been duped into nominating an unknown who turns out to be a liberal turncoat.

This guy could serve for 35-40 YEARS ! We can't afford to make a mistake again.

I fully support all efforts to make these guys fess up before hand on their stands on the major issues of our time, in particular Roe v Wade.

Unfortunately it's against the rules of judicial ethics to prejudge any issue, this whole business of turning the courts intop another political branch is doing great damage to our country.

IMO either let legislatures decide or ammend the constitution, this living breathing concept is disasterous as we know.

I hate the whole living breathing thing too... but until something is done to change it we gotta play the game with the rules the way they are whether we like them or not.

What good does it do us to fight to confirm this guy ... only to find out AFTER he is a USSCJ that he is pro choice?

On the surface it looks like Bush has oursmarted the dems once again... but that is only true if this guy is a real conservative.... if he's a souter... we're screwed.

oh, so you think it's a great idea for Republicans to continue nominating unknowns who usually turn out to be liberals, while liberals 100% of the time nominate liberals?

Name even ONE justice nominated by a liberal President that turned out to be a conservative?

Face it, Republicans have a dismal track record of picking fellow conservatives for the court.

I sincerly hope and pray that this guy is a REAL conservative, but unless he is required to answer questions about his belief we wont really know untill his make his first ruling on Roe v Wade as a new justice... How are you gonna feel then if he turns out to be another John Paul Stevens, or Souter?

"oh, so you think it's a great idea for Republicans to continue nominating unknowns"

Gee, I didn't post anything like the above comment. Perhaps you could enlighten me and quote where I did.

For the record, it would be better if President Bush nominates people with a more certain track record, even if they would be more difficult to confirm.

BTW, I have been following politics for 24 years and don't need your history lesson. I am painfully aware of the abysmal record of Republican Presidents regarding the nomination of conservatives to the court, including Reagan. I don't think that's the case this time with Roberts. Time will tell.

They demanded Estrada's private notes, remember?

I've heard the Democrats will be demanding his private notes from 20 years ago.

Kristol---he disagrees with Fred, says it is NOT a safe pick.

There is a grain of truth in what Kristol said. No Republican nominated judge is a safe pick so long as the Democrats trot out the views on abortion and affirmative action litmus test and Bork the nominee to the ends of the Earth.

That is a sure thing. He'll be wiggling out if you don't collect it! I still have friends who owe me money from the Presidential election, and those who unfortunately have already got the glassy-eyed ohmygod it must be the voting machines while they tic.

Wow. I just finished both threads. I was on the left coast in Disneyland for a family reunion during the entire week. We stayed in the Disneyland Hotel and all they had by way of cable news was CNN. The reunion was a blast but the political news was a wash. Just a bunch of leftists on CNN visibly upset at the pick.

On the up side, we had breakfast with the a few Disney Characters, and when we held hands to pray before breakfast, one of the characters (Max, Goofy's son) actually joined hands with us and bowed his head in prayer. I suppose there is hope for Disney yet.

It's great to be back in NC and to read FR. I love W's choice of Roberts for the SCOTUS. There will be a fight, but he will be confirmed. Next CJ Rinquist will resign, and Bush will elevate Thomas or Scilia to the CJ position. Then I hope he picks JRB to fill in for whoever Bush nominates to CJ. A black conservative woman would be great. The real food fight will start if Darth Vader Ginsburg has to step down because of health. Assuming that the other pick is someone like Luttig, Bush will have Two more courts of appeals judges to nominate (he already has to nominate Roberts' replacement). All in all a great week for us; I'm just kind of sorry I was not able to catch it on the FNC or FR when it was going down. Oh, well...

Well, if I were President Levin/Coulter would be my advisers (Appointments?).

Mark likes him and although Ann is worried she can't find anything bad about him. Those are great signs!

I don't think Mark had too much authority in the Reagan White House.
